My husband and I stayed here the night before boarding our wedding cruise. Osvaldo greeted us warmly and, when we asked to stow our luggage because we were 5 hours early for check-in, he informed us that our room was ready and we could take our luggage right on up and -- get this -- come back down and enjoy the complimentary breakfast. We certainly didn't expect to enjoy breakfast two mornings when staying only one night! What a sweet gesture. And the breakfast is *good* too. Beyond the usual continental breakfast setup, you can also order a sandwich or croissant or some tasty little quiche bites. All accompanied by endless Keurig. We loved settling into the swanky digs. The decor is sassy and edgy, all while providing top-notch facilities and a super comfortable bed. Also, because 31 others were joining us on the cruise, we'd had wedding cruise T-shirts printed and shipped to the hotel in advance of our arrival. The way Joey cared for that shipment, and presented it to us after we got settled in, was above and beyond. I know they were in a corrugated shipping box, but in my memory Joey presented them on a silver platter. That's the kind of impression he made when we had the pleasure of meeting him. The rooms and facilities are fun, smart, kitschy, clean, and well cared-for. But honestly the bright star of Hotel Gaythering is the staff. We can't wait to return!
I stayed here for six nights. Overall, the room was decent. The air conditioning wasn’t particularly strong, and since the room was located directly above the bar, there was some noise at night. That said, I’m a night owl, so it didn’t bother me much. During my stay, I went to the bar every night for a drink or two. My favorite bartender was a shorter man—very sweet and charming (he was working last Sunday and Tuesday). The other bartenders came across as a bit distant, but I recognize that sweetness, toughness, or chillness might just be different forms of gender performance, so I wouldn’t say they were less helpful—just different. The cocktails weren’t quite as refined as those at similarly priced places, but for anyone looking to explore Miami’s gay nightlife, this spot is still a solid recommendation. The sauna often had a good crowd of younger guys, and if you go a few hours before closing, you might catch some rather exciting scenes. The biggest disappointment during my stay actually happened after I checked out. I left on Friday and did laundry on Sunday after returning home, only to realize my pajama pants were missing. I wasn't sure if I lost them at the hotel or elsewhere, so I texted the number the hotel had previously used to contact me, just to ask if they had found anything. Unfortunately, I never received a response—not even after a full day.I understand it was entirely my fault for misplacing the item, and some hotels may avoid proactively informing guests about lost belongings to protect privacy. Still, the lack of any reply left me feeling the service here wasn’t particularly professional. All in all, I would recommend this place to gay travelers visiting Miami for the first time—it’s an experience worth having. But personally, I’m not sure I’d choose to stay here again next time.
Gaythering hotel completely failed. Their air conditioning went down and they put portable units in each rooms two days ago. We want a refund. We We moved to another hotel and unfortunately came back tonight. We were staying in the room and the portable unit stopped working at 1:30 AM. The staff was so inept they couldn't move us to another room which would have been the first thought. Instead they spent 20 minutes trying to figure out the portable unit malfunction and never gave us the option to move to another room. We have been long standing customers but never will stay here again. Horrific is how I will describe the situation. We live and Fort Lauderdale and drove home as I am writing this. Their air conditioning has been going down for months and they have had an ample amount of time to correct this. The building is old and outdated and is starting to smell like mold and mildew. In addition today the fire department was called to the site as the fire alarms went off four times. We had to evacuate the building twice. I would think twice before staying here. The staff is new and ill equipped to handle these situations. I am a business owner and would never handle the situation like they have. We will not be back. There are several options that are much better. Avoid this place! I would encourage others who had the same experience this weekend to also write a review!
