An hidden gem Hotel Cristallo commands a stunning view, overlooking the Portovenere bay and its yachts. The rooms are modern and extremely spacious. The service is helpful, friendly, professional and highly efficient. But wait, here comes the treasure: the restaurant. The dish offered could easily rival with a Michelin: delicate, well presented, innovative, blending new flavours, they will surprise you. The barman also knows his trade crafting perfect cocktails. And the service is top notch. Overall, a superb value for the price. Don’t miss it!
The hotel has a stunning view and the restaurant is just wonderfully amazing. But the building itself and the facilities have some issues. 1. The soundproofing of the rooms is not good. We could understand most of what our neighbors were taking about. 2. There is no privacy separation on the shared balconies. If your room neighbors are on the balcony they can directly look on to your bed. 3. There is just one public pool and not two as is indicated on the pictures. The second pool is a private pool. 4. There are no public restrooms at the pool area. If you need to use the restrooms you need to walk back up to the top of the hotel and take the elevator back down to your own room. Management seems to be aware of this issue. 5. The interior, particularly the bathrooms is clean but dated and not quite up to the standards one can expect in this price range. But to end on a positive note. The staff was very nice and friendly and helpful. And if you are into good food with a great view the restaurant can be highly recommended.
This is a perfectly fine hotel with excellent staff, but could do with some improvements on some critical areas. Location wise it is a 15 minute walk to the town and while perfectly walkable, this includes so very steep steps on a hill and so not suitable for older people or those with mobility issues. But the hotel is situated in a place which gives exceptional views of Porto Venere and so feels well located and quiet, which is nice. The room was large, clean and the balcony was also spacious. The bathroom was also very nicely done and I was happy with an excellent quality coffee machine in the room. The pool area was quiet, though there is no bar near the pool and you are not allowed drinks by it. For some guests things makes it less of a fun place to be during a vacation and overall the space felt good for an hour reading or resting, but not particularly sociable, which is why I think body used it during our stay. The bar was lovely, staff were excellent and the views are fantastic. Again though, this only opens at 6pm, and I think many people would enjoy a glass of wine before heading into town for the afternoon. Not being able to have a nice cold glass of wine in the afternoon is a bit of a loss when you are travelling, and so I think this makes the hotel overall feel a little empty. Breakfast was fine though simple, for the price I would have expected a wider variety of options. I cannot fault the staff at reception or around the other areas of the hotel who were always friendly, welcoming, polite and helpful. Overall the hotel feels modern, clean, peaceful and of high quality. I would suggest with a couple of small changes it could be so much more. Small note unrelated to the hotel, beware the taxis. We booked a taxi for 4, a seven seater arrived and merged us with another 4 people (two children so one couldn’t wear a seat belt). We were quoted €25 for a 10 minute journey to the town, the driver insisted on €60 when we arrived as he said it was a bigger car. Uber does not work and the taxi (I fear there is only one) is an absolute rip off. Given the proximity of the hotel this is something to consider too, the hotel would do well to support guests in finding less extortionate ways to travel into the town.
