Our first visit and we were not disappointed. A calm and relaxing stay with beautiful grounds to walk through and a route down to the canal towpath. All staff were polite, friendly and extremely efficient, and not thing was too much trouble. Breakfast was cooked to order and of a very high standard, as was our evening, also served in The Potager Restaurant. We will return and highly recommend this hotel
The hotel is nice. Although it’s about the 4th time we stay there and I’ve let them know that it was q birthday celebration. I sent 2 messages to reception so that they could at least prepare a message for the birthday person and nothing was done! The customer service was such a down point. Breakfast could also be improved, no cheese or ham selection. We do pay quite a lot extra for breakfast and the hot food is nice but could do with expanding the cold options a bit. We ao had dinner at the main restaurant and the portions were exceptionally small. Despite ordering 2 starters and 2 mains we both left hungry and though about ordering a pizza. Ordered 2 of the the slow cooked beef as main (picture added) and had 2 small pieces of meat for £35 each. Not good value for money. One to improve. Quality matters but quantity also matters when it comes to food! Thanks.
We booked a garden room as we were travelling with small dogs . When we arrived the chap on recipe room was very friendly and professional and showed us to our Russet garden room room 25 . Very well located right next to the car park so great for offloading our bits and pieces , on entry to the room the first impression was it was not clean it appeared grubby and not well maintained . We gave it the benefit of the doubt initially as we were very tired after a long drive from south wales . Maybe the room was supposed to appear rustic . On further inspection there were cobwebs everywhere and also spiders all over the place , we had to remove 4 spiders ( neither one of us particularly is fond of spiders ) this also put us off staying in the room and having a well deserved sleep . We understand that when a room is surrounded by nature and trees and such that you do get insects and spiders will come in however the cobweb that was attached to the lamp was so thick it was definitely one that had been there for some Time which made us think that maybe the room had not been used recently or the cleaning of the room was very questionable. I found a small white tablet on the floor of the room which concerned me greatly if one of my dogs had eaten it or a child has stayed and done the same this could have been very tragic as it was unidentified medication ! Again not much attention to detail when cleaning or preparing a room for guests ! Now we get to the bed ….. I think they seriously need to replacing the bed in room25 as it creaks and cracks when you place a bag on it let alone lay a human on it ! When you did very cautiously lay on it both of our legs felt elevated like the top end was going to collapse , lenses to say there was no restful sleep had at all . The rug was grubby and had seen better days and the cushions all has suspicious stains on them as did one of the bath towels . We were so disappointed we were only staying for 1 night and paid near £200 for the displeasure . I would not recommend anyone staying at Crouchers . The staff at breakfast were friendly and inviting and we did get something to eat at the cider house kitchen next door which was very nice . Do not stay here ! or if you do expect a very uncomfortable night in a grubby , dishevelled room , which needs a good clean and some new furniture.
