5 Stars We travelled down to Wetheral for the weekend (5th April) to meet up with family, as it’s exactly halfway between a few of us—and I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the village is. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the Crown Hotel and its beautiful grounds. The service throughout our stay was excellent, with every staff member we encountered being friendly and helpful. Our room (254) was spacious, clean, and very comfortable—exactly what we needed for a relaxing break. The hotel’s location is perfect too, right in the heart of the village with some lovely walks along the river nearby. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere throughout the hotel. We’ll definitely be returning to the Crown Hotel in Wetheral—highly recommended!
Went here for an overnight with work. My room was in a cottage away from the main hotel. The room was comfortable with everything you would expect. Breakfast was ok, albeit a little slow for me to get my order (table service). The hotel is in a beautiful village and not far from the river Eden, two minutes walk to the riverside and lovely walk by the river
Went for Mother's Day, the staff were brilliant, and the surroundings were nice, but the food, not so much. We had the set menu, the salmon starter was nice, the beef dinner wasn't great, and the beef was pink in the middle which is how I like it but it was tough to cut, a few in our group had to ask for steak knives as they couldn't cut it with a normal knife then it was like a workout for the jaw to eat. The Yorkshire pudding was like a small cake, not the texture I'd expect it to be. My Dad had the pork, which looked lovely. The chocolate and hazelnut cheesecake looked amazing but was very rubbery. We had a great afternoon but I wouldn't go back for the food.
