Just back from a wonderful impromptu stay at this hotel - and we had a fantastic experience! The spa was really nice, not luxurious exactly, but spacious and well equipped with huge jacuzzi pool, regular pool, sauna x 2, steam room and cold room. The gym looked great too, though we didn't go in, and we didn't eat in the restaurant - but it looked lovely, modern and welcoming! We stayed 2 nights and had 2 different rooms (our planning, not theirs as we briefly checked out before deciding to stay) and our first floor room was better than the third. Both were pleasant, clean and comfortable but the first floor room was more spacious and had a queen sized bed (zip link). The pink glow lighting was an interesting touch. We sat out on the terrace and watched the world go by on the second morning, overlooking the fairly quiet cliff road, with the sea and seafront of South Bay in view. The standout thing for me was the staff, in particular the lovely Gina, who really made our stay with her genuine warmth and 'nothings too much trouble' attitude. We will definitely be back, and can wholeheartedly recommend to others 😊
For me, it's a hotel that's had its day, don't get me wrong, the Crown spa has style, but it needs some investment, not to modernise, but to maintain the class it had in its heyday. On my own for one night, apart from using the shower/bathroom & making a cup of tea, I didn't use any other facilities, no meals or bar, although I'm sure they're very good. I understand there are also leisure facilities here, including a pool. I had a single room, which was very hot, although comfortable as far as the bed was concerned. I found the reception staff somewhat aloof, & not particularly welcoming, (a smile goes a long way), at least look like you enjoy your job. I believe this us a popular hotel, but I probably wouldn't stay again.
1* if not 0*! One of the most disappointing hotel stays I’ve had. The hotel is very outdated and nothing like the modern photos shown online. Our “superior” room was tired, poorly cleaned, and set up incorrectly. It was boiling hot & no a/c as it’s too old. Had to use a fan!! Bathroom was in bad shape with broken fittings. The spa felt like an old leisure centre—pool cold, steam room not working, and treatments underwhelming. Breakfast was awful—rubbery hot food and tinned fruit. Even the taxi driver warned us not to eat there! Staff seemed disengaged and overall experience was far from the 4* promise. Parking a nightmare, especially if you have disability issues like my mum & can’t park right outside. It’s street parking, no dedicated hotel car park. Booked a sea view room, technically we could see the sea but to get the view I had to climb out the window, my mum wasn’t able to do that 😢 Would NOT return or recommend.
