Cumberland Resort and Spa

Tima and her team provide a warm and genuine welcome when you arrive at the Cumberland, before showing you around. The property is not “big-city-sparkling new” but the grounds and gardens were tidy, well maintained and consistent with most places we visited on the island. The rooms were large, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The local avocados provided were a nice touch and made for great breakfasts, and while also heeding Tima’s warning about their potency, my wife enjoyed adding some chillis picked from the garden too! There were plenty of good quality clean towels and crisp linen, and the robes provided were great and allowed me to maintain my modesty by fitting me better than a mini-shirt (unlike all the flashy joints we’ve ever visited). The location is fantastic, being only a couple minutes walk to restaurants and shopping, and having the hire car was really handy to get around the rest of the island. Norfolk Island is a very different and fascinating place, and clearly a challenging place to run any business. Everything that needs to be shipped in is unloaded by hand, so many resources can be scarce, expensive, or sometimes non-existent. I recommend leaving any pretentious expectations at home, and to bring your sense of humour, open mind and open heart, and you will be met with open arms by great people with old-world values that has been long-lost on the mainland. Advertised as luxury executive resort. Mmmm. Our 4 bedroom house had dated shabby bedrooms that should only fit a queen bed at the most and you still don’t have room for suitcases. The poor people in the bottom bedroom room have to put up with loud and constant creaking noise when anyone showers upstairs due to the ill fitting shower hob and everyone walking thru to the laundry.kit hen and down stairs living area was adequate with a positive being a great dinning table for all to gather. Expect a resort that has multiple accommodation buildings sitting within a car park with tired gardens.
