DA Hotel Apartments

Lovely hotel in the converted old post office building. Location very close to Gothenburg mainline station and tram system. Short walk to the main shopping area, cafes, bars, canal, etc. Reception guy welcomed us nicely. Lovely big room with great view of the plaza in front. Nice bathroom. Breakfast was great. We had a meal in the restaurant, which was first class (but pricey). Bar was nice, but beer selection was limited. Overall a great place and well recommended.

We booked this hotel for our honeymoon as a treat. At first I was somewhat worried after reading some of the negative reviews on here - but they really are to be taken with a pinch of salt. We really enjoyed our stay here, we stopped in the new part of the hotel in one of the more basic rooms. It was well equipped, had a really lovely design to it and the darkness of the interior really helped with Swedish summer sun! The beds were also very comfortable and I don’t think anyone complain about their choice of pillow! A highlight of our room was a small goody bag filled with treats and a lovely card from the staff members who wished us a lovely time - the hotel chose to go above and beyond in this moment and it really made us feel special. The staff at the hotel are so lovely, helpful and could not be anymore accommodating. They charged my phone for me when my adapter didn’t work, they answered any questions we had etc. At breakfast staff welcomed you and collected your plates with care, there was never a moment where the staff weren’t working their hardest at our stay. Everyone was dedicated, friendly and efficient. Breakfast itself was also excellent with a wide variety of options even for my partner who is vegan. Our only wish would be that there was some vegan protein sources such as sausages, but overall there was a decent selection and staff could be actively seen checking the buffets freshness and changing the trays. Our one sort of issue with the hotel, and the only reason it’s not a full five stars is that some of the information before your stay/booking is unclear. The rooftop pool is advertised and was one of our main draws to the hotel, but we did not know that you had to pay (295KR each) to enter the pool. We did still do this experience - as why wouldn’t you on a honeymoon? - and the hotel does give discounts to guests, but it would be nice if this information was updated on Strawberry or booking.com as whilst I fully understand the need for a booking system for this activity, the price is quite steep and unexpected when you first book it. Another piece of information not available unless you look on the hotel is that the spa itself offers a 2 for 1! This was wonderful information to find out and very much appreciated however we would not have known about this offer unless we had checked the TV in our room. I think this would make more people want to visit the spa facilities in general. Finally, the only other small gripe was that the “treat kitchen” in the spa advertises that it has fika and smoothies, it does not tell you until you are inside that this is also extra. Whilst there are a few offerings like water, tea or an apple - I would not really call it a treat kitchen! Overall, we did have a lovely time at the hotel and we were happy with our hotel experience. The staff could not do more and for what you pay the quality of the rooms, breakfast and the location of the hotel really was fantastic for us. It would just be helpful if there was abit more information out there!

Pros: -Excellent breakfast with welcoming and attentive staff -Comfortable bed -Rooms very clean and well sound-proofed -Excellent location Cons: (all raised in person during stay but twice dismissed) -Fridge broken (needed to store medication) no replacement, no room change, no acknowledgement, room number not taken -Windows initially opened, but on the third night were screwed shut; told they could not be opened despite seeing other rooms with open windows. Raised with staff but they said it was an error. -Hairdryer broken ( but promptly replaced) -To my knowledge, no phone directory so unable to ring reception Reception staff abrupt and unwelcoming, in stark contrast to breakfast staff. Overall, we would stay again and it is a solid base but some considerations to be made.
