PLEASE READ THIS HONEST AND THOROUGH REVIEW. Clean rooms, great staff, but a few things prevent me giving 5 stars. We stayed for 2 nights in Feb 2023 for about €120 per night in a “deluxe” room….one category upgraded from the lowest priced room which was called “superior”. De Stefano Palace truly is built into a former 18th century palace. You can tell by the number of staircases and small sitting rooms around the whole property. The rooms are elegant with beautiful, frescoed ceilings. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful even helping me arrange bus transportation to Palermo as there was a problem with the train schedule during the period I was here. The hotel was well located at the east end of the newer town within easy walking distance to the old town. I don’t think any of the rooms have any kind of a panoramic view….mine didn’t. The rooms were exceptionally clean, and the breakfast was very nice. I would say that the Wi-Fi is adequate but not fast. The few issues that I had were that the bathroom shower stall was exceptionally small. Think of an old time phone booth….remember those? About 24x24 inches square. I am 6 feet tall and 210 pounds and showering was challenging. If you are a very large person, it would be downright impossible. From the pictures it seems some rooms have bigger showers, but since I did upgrade my room, I don’t know which ones those were. There was a handheld wand and a rain shower but because the shower was so tiny, you can’t get your head out of the water if you use the rain shower, so I only used the hand shower. Given the tiny size of this shower stall, they should replace the rain shower with a standard fixed showerhead. The sink was large and the towel warming rack was a nice feature, but I would’ve gladly traded these for a bigger shower. I found the beds to be adequate, but not to the level I would’ve expected for a four-star property. The bedding was mid grade, and the mattress was OK, but quite flat and firm by American standards. A thicker, softer mattress would be a welcome improvement. Given these two things, I’m not sure what classified my room as an “upgraded” one. I think if I would have booked a standard category room, I would have given it five stars for value, but given that I paid $30 more to upgrade, I felt the value was missing for the upcharge. Overall, we had a very nice stay at this property and in Ragusa. I hope the hotel reads this review and makes the few improvements that I suggested for the benefit of future guests.
