My wife and I had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was in the middle of refurbishment but we weren't disturbed at all by the ongoing work. We paid extra for the breakfast which was excellent and well worth it. In fact the food was very good all round and very reasonable. The room was clean and comfortable and the bed was just right. We both slept very well. Access to the attached fitness centre comes as complimentary for hotel guests and my wife and I took advantage of the pool, sauna and steam room most evenings. The hotel is a little out of the way and Marks Tey has only a few local amenities including a great American style diner, However, the hotel will better suit drivers, even though public transport links are good enough to get into Colchester and back. Access to many of the local spots are better driven. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would almost certainly return
Although there the hotel is in the middle of a refurbishment, we managed to have an enjoyable stay. I think, however, if I'd known when I booked in January that the restaurant wasn't going to be ready, I would have chosen a different hotel. I booked a DBB package and our dinner was in the bar area. It was not the setting I was expecting. I couldn't fault the welcome and friendliness of the staff. The breakfast had a good variety and was nicely presented in the orangery. Our executive double room was massive and tastefully decorated. I can see it being a lovely hotel was the refurbishment is finished.
The Starbucks coffee (double espresso) was okay. The Starbucks "posh fish finger sandwich" at £13.95 was a complete rip off. I can get a two course lunch in a proper restaurant for £14. The Tesla superchargers are brilliant. Never found them overly busy.
