We recently had our wedding here and couldn't have been happier with how the day went. Imogen, Anthony, Cyril and the rest of the team all went above and beyond to make sure our day ran smoothly and stress free. The little touches like helping us set up the day before and making sure we always had a drink in our hand were really appreciated. The venue and gardens were immaculate and we received a room upgrade on the night with a room overlooking York Racecourse. Thank you to the Marriott team!
Hotel reception is lovely and staff friendly. Got to my room though and not very impressed unfortunately. It was difficult to find, as not enough signs to tell you where to go. Door sticking but not a big issue. But the room is old and outdated. Bathroom is clean but not well equipped. Plenty enough space for a shower, but decided on a small bath with poor water pressure instead. The room has 1 big problem though, which is a huge pet hate of mine for hotels, no plug socket next to the bed. Its such a simple thing, and most hotels now have it, but this one uses special plugs even for the lights so you can't use them. Also always a concern when there's a fan, radiator and separate electric radiator in the room, in summer. Plus an extremely thick duvet (although would be lovely in winter!). Overall would not recommend and will not be returning again.
Sadly in need of refurbishment - carpets dingy and a shower in a high-sided bath. This despite paying for a super deluxe double. My steak, which I asked to be well done was red in the middle and pink towards the outside. Otherwise, food was just about acceptable. £2.50 for a small bar of Dairy Milk chocolate from the “grab and go” in reception. The garden was nice, with good views towards the racecourse. Most of the staff, particularly in the dining room, were very helpful.
