Alright where do I even start. Maybe with the positive stuff: The location is quite nice in general. Especially because it's in the middle of the woods, therefore the air quality is the next I've ever experienced in Kazakhstan. The playgrounds for children are well built and safe, so that parents can actually take a break. There are also many different attractions that will keep you occupied. Now to the negative: The checking process is not very well thought through. There is a huge queue of people who all have to draw a number from a machine and then wait. It took us probably around 70-80 minutes to get through. At least they hand out beers and some snacks to accommodate for the wait time. The food and restaurant service... is really... Not good!! No matter if it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, you have no choice on what to eat. They give you some food and you have to eat it. If you don't like it, you can either not eat at all or order from their small menu that is available (charged separately). They have a separate restaurant floor for kids where there is actually a chafing dish buffet from where you can get decent food. Also even if they offer enough bread rolls during every meal, there is not really anything to put on them. At breakfast you get two tiny pieces of butter that are enough for the slice of sausage or mini cheese. But if you want to eat another one, you are out of luck. I'm sure you could ask for more but it's just not pleasant. Also the sausages are disgusting. Also I think every meal we had, there's were not enough cutlery on the table. 2 knives for 4 people and a small child is challenging. The coffee is horrible, so we had to go down to a different cafe to get proper coffee after breakfast. (Charged) The beer was good at least. Now to the rooms: They are actually quite big and nice. (Building 5) The only things I can complain about is that the shower floor was more built properly, so that the water didn't fully flow out. The water was not really hot, only mildly warm. There is no WiFi in the rooms and mobile connectivity is bad indoors. Which could also be a plus if you are seeking internet detox. I am writing this review in frustration while still at the location. But reflecting on it now, the worst thing is actually the food. Maybe that's also due to my European standards, but if they fixed everything around restaurant, food choice, menu etc... then I might give it 3 stsrs, maybe 3.5.
Most unfortunately, this was not an enjoyable stay. Many of our complaints relate to the time of year we traveled. We went in March, so it is too cold to go swimming in the waterpark/spa before moving between multiple buildings on a spread out complex. Walking distances are quite far especially with small children. Every member of our family got sick very quickly. If you’re a western tourist, just understand what this experience entails. This resort is basically a Soviet style health sanatorium. You can see pseudo-medical personnel that can perform various rituals. In terms of dining, there is a set menu in a cafeteria, which isn’t particularly good. The coffee is not drinkable. There is an option to order from a restaurant and a cafe, but why not just serve decent a menu? I did not care for the towel policy, which is rigorously enforced. If you lose a towel (such as bringing to the pool), it’s a $30 USD charge! Yikes! Lastly, the gym was in an abysmal state. No treadmills and everyone was wearing socks. Just bizarre beyond words. Lastly, and very importantly, there is no WiFi in the rooms. You must find a common area such as the lobby (a far walk), the cafeteria, or children’s play area. For the positive aspects, the hotel is surrounded by nature and sits directly on the lake. There are also some helpful staff members.
