Donnafugata Golf Resort & SPA

Extremely well designed resort, building on the original villa / farm buildings and architecture. It is specious inside and out and well maintained and the links are fabulous. The on site restaurants and bars are good if not a little pricey and there is plenty to explore within a short drive from here.

The whole facility - buildings, grounds, golf, staff, etc. - is lovely, and worth the 5 stars they claim. But the hotel kitchen (except for breakfast, which is superb) - food, service - is a catastrophe at any price, way overpriced, and deserves 1 star at best, meaning "available, but bad, and to be avoided if possible". You have to take a taxi to get a good meal in the area, which means that good food is expensive. I didn't expect gourmet cooking, but good food should be a cinch for Italy. I'd love to go back, because the rest is so good, but the food will keep me away.

This is so far from being a 4-5 star resort. Do not come here if the smell of perfume is an issue. The smell is completely overwhelming! I had to use a rescue inhaler after a few minutes. The hotel “prides” themselves in the use of heavy perfumes in the rooms, considering it a “luxury”. I’m of the belief that they are trying to mask other unpleasant odors. I asked for a fan to air the room out and was told that they don’t have a single fan at the hotel (resort lol) The mold in the bathroom was unsightly! Plastic floors, a bed as hard as a table, glasses, cups and teakettle cleaned with furniture polish and unresponsive front desk help, makes this a one star motel. I requested an iron and was told that they only had 10 available for over 200 rooms. This is so unacceptable! The food was mediocre and tasted like it was prepared days prior. I hate leaving such a bad review of a hotel, but this was so far below expectations that it was necessary.
