We celebrated our 40th Anniversary. Nick the front desk clerk surprised us with 2 bottles of wine and a fruit and cheese tray. The whole staff was amazing and the rooms were very clean. We will go back.
My wife and I stayed at the DoubleTree in Evansville from June 11–16 and unfortunately, this was one of our most disappointing hotel experiences, especially from a brand we’ve trusted for years. Upon check-in, we found pet hair on the furniture. Instead of properly cleaning it, the staff simply covered it with blankets, which felt more like a cover-up than a solution. On our second day, despite multiple check-ins with the front desk, our room was never serviced. We had to go down late in the evening just to get fresh towels. When housekeeping did come on other days, extra towels we had requested were often missing, and the beds were sometimes left untouched, even though we had asked for them to be refreshed. The worst issue: a faulty iron burned a hole in my wife’s dress the night before an event. We were told maintenance would bring a replacement, it never came. We ended up borrowing one from another guest. Hotel management promised us reimbursement for the dress at checkout, but we’ve received no follow-up over a week later. As former hospitality professionals, we understand staffing issues happen, but clear communication and basic follow-through were missing throughout our stay. We’ve stayed here for years, but unfortunately, the service and attention to detail have gone downhill.
Terrible experience. My reservation somehow got cancelled (it certainly was not me that cancelled it). I showed up and they had no rooms available. The manager was very nice and offered to comp me 2 free nights at the Holiday Inn Express downtown. I was almost late to my speaking engagement and it was all very stressful. I got to the Holiday Inn very late and it was very dirty - stains all over the couch on the room, dirty elevator, unappealing location and common spaces. I felt so unsafe (sketchy area) that I immediately checked out. Somehow I just noticed I was charged for the full 2 nights on my credit card (for incidentals only!!) even though I didn't stay there and was promised it would be comped. This is all exceedingly disappointing and was one of my most stressful travel experiences to date.
