The good: Rooms were a good size and clean. We had two adjoining rooms one double bed, one king with pull out. Pull out was a good size for 2 kids under 14. Reception area clean staff were professional. The pool area was clean and stocked with towels. Had a mini fridge in each room. The complimentary airport shuttle was good. Distance from the airport is about 5 min. The Not so good: We called guest service and requested towels and wash cloths to our rooms. They said someone would be right up and no one ever brought them. There was a pillow for pull out but no blanket. We had to go to reception desk to get a blanket. When I inquired about the shuttle service they said is it was 24/7 but did not mention that there was only one van and it was every 20 min. If I had known that, I would have called down first thing so I would know when to go down. Overall great stay.
You can tell most the staff could care less about the place. We checked in on a Friday, first room smelled moldy so we switched rooms. Though the amenities are sparce in the rooms, room itself was decent. But we did have the TV give us trouble the whole time. We had signed into Disney+ for our children. The TV just kept crashing. Might have been due to a storm but made it hard to let our girls watch shows they enjoy and we approve for their age. First night I could smell electric burn in one the elevators. Rest of our stay that elevator was out of order and the one could be a bit of a wait. Saturday morning we paid for buffet breakfast and it was okay. Sunday was a different story... Place was hit. We felt bad because the only person working there was absolutely joyful to interact with. We left him a good tip for his service. The entire hotel had trash throughout. Glasses from drinks and empty beer bottles everywhere, dirty towels on a table, door to women's bathroom lodged open and the trash was overflowing. There was no cleaning crew tending to the bathroom so not sure why the door was stuck open. Overall the place looks like a frat party happened and is waiting to be cleaned up. Definitely re thinking staying at any doubletree outside the one we've come to like in Burlington. Holiday inn Woonsocket was such a nice stay the days prior that it was sad to see this hotel have a lack of caring.
My son and I come to Windsor Locks every few months to visit his grandparents. I initially chose Doubletree because it used to be a lovely, quality hotel. I lived in the area for 22 years. We stayed 5/1-5/3, and it was miserable from start to finish. Let me add, I worked in high end hospitality in the past. We walked in, and I had to clear my throat to even get acknowledgment from the female clerk. No welcome or hello. I gave her my name, she struggled and acted like she couldn’t find me. A man soon walked over and found my reservation. We got to our room (227), it was 78 degrees. Miserable. Dirty floor but I let it slide. We managed to get the window open, 6 inches is the max. We both barely slept, but I called the desk in the morning and found out the issue was hotel-wide. Was told I’d get a fan asap. We got showered and ready to leave for the afternoon, still no fan. I went by the desk on our way out, and asked that they please deliver my fan. It was in the room when we got back, thankfully. I was just really disappointed with the lack of human kindness and hospitality that I was expecting. No cookies the entire time we were there. I can pay $200 a night elsewhere in town and get far better service.
