DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru

Took a short weekend getaway with the missus and chose DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru as our stay—and it didn’t disappoint. The moment we stepped into the hotel, we were welcomed by the signature warm cookie and an equally warm smile from the staff. The lobby was grand and beautifully lit, giving off a classy yet inviting vibe. Our room was modern, spacious, and clean with all the amenities we needed. Loved the comfy bed and how everything felt well maintained and thoughtfully laid out. The hotel is also well-located, making it easy for us to walk to nearby malls and eateries. We didn’t dine in much at the hotel this time, but everything else—from check-in to check-out—was smooth and pleasant. A comfortable and relaxing stay perfect for a quick escape from city life.

We booked a Guest Twin Room for one night and requested a birthday setup. They offer various options at different prices, but we just opted for the complimentary slice of cake. As with every DoubleTree Hotel, we were warmly welcomed with their signature cookies. The room was clean and spacious, which made our stay even more comfortable. I especially appreciated the strong water pressure and the spotless bathroom. The breakfast spread was impressive. Memang complete! There was a nasi lemak station, a Chinese corner (dim sum, noodles), a grill station, Indian cuisine, lontong, rendang, fresh fruits, a wide variety of pastries, desserts, and salads. Honestly, it felt like too much for breakfast but in the best way possible! Everything we tried was flavorful. The dining area itself was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room to move around and enjoy the meal without feeling crowded. We definitely wish we had more time! Definitely will book this hotel again in the future.

Everything was great at this hotel except the front desk service. Absolutely horrible experience with the front desk manager, Rachel. We had an issue that required her decision, before even understanding the issue she first rejected the request. I had to ask Mimi (the only front desk staff who was actually nice and greeted us with a smile) to call the manager to further explain the issue. Even while I was explaining the issue calmly, she kept cutting me off and asking questions when I have already explained what she was asking about. If she had taken a moment to actually listen to what I was saying she would understand the issue and provided a very simple resolution. She was extremely dismissive and had horrible soft skills. This is my second time here and both times the front desk was disappointing. My wife was even struggling to carry the bags to the car and the bellboys with all the trolleys nicely wrapped up was just watching her struggle and did not offer to help. Thankfully the security guard was nice enough to help. It is very unfortunate as we enjoyed the rooms and the executive lounge. Staff upstairs were very nice, but sorry to say the front desk treatment felt like I was checking in to OYO hotel. I hope management can take appropriate action for their poor customer service at the front desk, the 'welcoming' face of the hotel because I'm definitely not going back.
