DoubleTree by Hilton San Jose

I had a wonderful stay at the DoubleTree in San Jose, largely thanks to the exceptional service provided by Margret at the front desk. She was very friendly and accommodating, allowing me to check in earlier than the standard time. Margret also kindly offered an extra bottle of water and a cookie, which was a nice touch. When I realized I hadn’t received my receipt a week after my stay, I called the hotel and was lucky to have Margret answer. She quickly emailed me the receipt without any hassle. My room was comfortable and issue-free throughout my visit. Thank you, Margret, for going above and beyond to make my stay pleasant!

Starting off by mentioning that this is listed as four star hotel. Starting with positives: the two staff members I interacted with were normal, no rude interactions. The room was spacious, the bed was decently comfortable, no funky smells. The negatives: This place feels old and neglected. Nearly every surface of the room needs to be replaced. Doors are falling apart, walls are cracked, tubs are cracked, desks are cracked, etc. It’s located right along the 101 so you get unbearable and unending traffic noise. Bring earplugs. This isn’t a four star hotel by any means. It feels more like an old inn or motel you’d find along a deserted highway.

I should have read the reviews BEFORE I booked a room here. I trust Hilton, and have never been disappointed, but this property is very old and has not been properly cared for. I will never stay here again, and I'm even questioning my Hilton loyalty. The carpets in the hallways and rooms are stained and very old. The armchair in the room also has stains. There are lines of lint along the walls of the room. The doors and walls are in disrepair in both the rooms and hallways. I travel frequently for work and have found a mini refrigerator to be fairly standard, but there are no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms. The ice machine on my floor wasn't working, which was a huge pain without a refrigerator. When I went to buy water, the vending machine was out of water. I have interacted with two staff members who were both very polite. My bed was made up while I was gone during the day for work. The rooms are quite large and the location has potential, but it needs to be updated. I am certain travelers can find a better option for the price.
