DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Charlotte SouthPark

We stayed about a week. The rooms are large and spacious and the beds very comfy. Really enjoyed the pool as it was over 95 every day outside and the pool is open to 10pm (and lit). Plenty of seating and towels in the shade, at one point I counted 20 people in the water and there was still plenty of room. I read some of the other reviews ...our room was not serviced the first day, but we got service the other days. Our AC was very finicky and would turn to heating if we touched it so we left it alone and that was fine. The day it stopped working, maintenance came in and reset it and it was fine. We did laundry and the machines are working, I run the dryer on high which isn't the default setting so everything was dry (45min). The one hard thing was parking as once there's a convention, there was no parking at all and you will be cited if parking at the mall. It's otherwise a busy and popular hotel.

After staying at this hotel, I am astonished it has a 4.2 average rating. Overall it was a worse experience than some 3-star hotels I've stayed at. The first room I was given was in terrible shape and had an air conditioner so loud I couldn't hear myself think. The front desk (thankfully) swapped me to a different room. The air conditioner in this room still wasn't great at keeping the room cool, but at least I could sleep. The beds aren't great either, very rock hard. My shower burned me when I first got in (yes I should have checked but it was only at 3/4 hot) and the body wash dispenser was empty. It took multiple visits (over 8 hours) to the front desk to get some delivered, and even then it was left on my door instead of actually replaced. My room was not serviced at all during my stay. The parking garage is under construction with a bunch of spaces closed off. Parking was difficult at night, and there's no lighting in there either. The only nice thing about this hotel is the location, and even then there's better hotels across the street. I would never stay at this hotel again unless they did a major renovation.

This hotel is a dump, particularly the grounds and pool area. Pool was filthy with green algae and tons of debris floating. I stayed for 3 nights and asked several times for that area to be cleaned. Trash around the pool and dirty dishes sat on 2 tables our entire trip. On Fathers Day, no pool towels! Bulging hamper overflowed with dirty towels. Asked at the front desk and was told laundry area would stock. We swam for 4 hours. No staff brought towels. Another unhappy guest managed to find some and shared. That guest also took iron himself to skim the debris out of the pool. Maintenance stopped by after our complaints but did nothing. Tables had dried food on them. Yuk!!! Apparently areas are not swept regularly. Saw cigarette butts and litter in the same area throughout our stay. Ordered room service and both times the tray with dishes sat at our door for a day and a half. Never saw anyone greet customers. Lobby was not clean and rugs not vacuumed. The staff need a lesson to learn how to treat guests with dignity and appreciation not as if we are bothering them. The only good thing I can share is the pillows were nice. Oh and the curtains in the living area and shower curtain were disgusting. And presently waiting for my bill to be revised. I was charged a pet fee 3 times!
