I got married at down hall 21/6/25 and choosing this venue for my special day was undoubtedly the best decision I ever made. The whole team from the wedding coordinators, reception team, reservations, catering, house keeping (the list goes on) really went above and beyond and enabled my day to be seamless. The grounds are just utterly beautiful and the food was incredible our guest was just blown away. Everything from start to finish was just perfect I cannot find any faults at all, if you are thinking of booking here for a stay or a wedding this is your sign to book. The only feedback I would give is the rooms other than the suites were not air conditioned we stayed during a heatwave so guests did mention how hot the rooms got. Fans were provided by the team but in 30 degree heat an air con unit is most definitely needed. Thank you again to all the team at Down Hall
What a gorgeous retreat this is with great food, rooms & service. We felt our shoulders dip an inch as soon as we walked in. The sauna & steam room were great, breakfast was tremendous and the evening meal in The Fox Bar was great. We had a suite with a balcony and copper bath and the best nights sleep I’ve had in a while. Thanks to Rebecca for making sure the room was what we were after and for making sure we were looked after. My favourite bit was the soft cute lounge for a coffee after dinner on the velvet sofas having watching the sunset over the Manor House earlier. Take. Us. Back. Special mention for Niamh whose professional service & warm personality was a superb reflection of the establishment she’s representing. She’s a credit to you all.
Avoid This Place at All Costs — Absolutely Appalling I don’t even know where to begin. This was, without doubt, the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had — and that’s saying something. From the moment we stepped into the room, we were hit by a wall of heat — it was like walking into a sauna set to inhumane. A sweltering 42 degrees, with nothing but a filthy, clattering fan that sounded like it was on its last legs. Absolutely no air conditioning. No ventilation. Just heat, noise, and suffocation. Then came the real horror: the bedding was dirty — stains, hairs, and a general mustiness that suggested it hadn’t been properly changed in a long time. The bathroom was no better. Grimy, tired, and in desperate need of a deep clean. We immediately raised our concerns with staff, who were nothing short of useless. Not only did they fail to offer any meaningful help, but they also laughed it off — as if our discomfort and disgust were some kind of joke. The dismissive, couldn’t-care-less attitude was the final straw. We chose to leave that evening — we physically couldn’t stay in that heat and filth — and yet, despite all of this, the hotel refused to issue a refund. Not even a partial one. Not even an apology. This wasn’t just a bad stay — it was an insult to anyone expecting even basic standards of hygiene, comfort, or hospitality. I wouldn’t let my worst enemy stay here. Avoid at all costs.
