My experience at the Hotel Dvořák restaurant in Karlovy Vary was truly exceptional. The staff are very caring, kind, attentive, and friendly. The kitchen is fantastic – high-quality dishes and everything in abundance. What touched me most was how, despite the behaviour of some aggressive and unfriendly guests I witnessed, the staff remained calm, kind, and caring at all times. I take my hat off to their perseverance, love, and dedication. This restaurant is a shining example of what true hospitality should be. One thing I did notice and found less pleasant is that some guests pay only for breakfast but take large amounts of food with them for the whole day. This sometimes means that later breakfast guests have fewer options. Perhaps the hotel could keep a closer eye on this in the future so that everyone can enjoy the full breakfast offering.
Location and view from balcony rooms towards river was excellent. Service was inconsistent and rooms are due for a refresh. Breakfast was quite good and added lots of value. For the money it has good value considering everything. Would be nice if they had conditioner, bar soap and bottle opener. Peter Halla at reception provided excellent service and spoke perfect English as well which made the experience a 5 star versus 4.
I booked this hotel a day before arriving, which is generally not the best practice for getting good value. With that said, it was a mostly good stay. Booking was straight forward and you are given an ability of checking in online. You can also checkout online, which is what we did. Reception was nice, albeit when I had an issue with the bill, their English proficiency was not strong enough to understand what I was saying. I wouldn't hold this against the hotel though as I am in Czech Republic and my Czech was not good. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The hotel is larger than it appears, but we never felt like there were too many people or not enough shared space room. We declined room cleaning during our weekend stay, but we saw the cleaning crew being active. The pool was nice and clean. Although, the water was a bit too cold for us. It would have been a bit better warmed up. The saunas were wonderful. Both the dry and wet sauna looked new and worked like a charm. There were always ample towels available. The location is a bit far from the train and bus station, but a quick taxi ride is easy to grab. Without bags you can easily walk from the hotel to urban center. The hotel itself is located in front of a river and road. It is walkable and there are tons of stores and restaurants around. The view from our room was beautiful. We had the mountains our first day and the second day we had snow. The view of both was great. The one negative aspect of our trip was booking and payment. I booked the hotel for one price and paid a different price. The overall difference in cost was $20 US dollars, which isn't a terrible amount, but it really is the principle. I tried to speak to reception about the discrepancy in payment, but they did not understand. Ultimately, when on holiday you don't want to waste time arguing about the cost of something, but I do think the issues with booking cost versus actual cost are a concern that folks should be aware of.
