My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the E&O! It is a beautiful and historic hotel, and our room, a George Town suite, was gorgeous, and absolutely huge. The bedding, robes and towels were comfortable and of a high quality, as were the other amenities. We appreciated the free minibar, and loved both the breakfast and the evening cocktails and canapes. It was nice to be able to choose from the various restaurants, and the food and drinks were varied and of a good quality, and service was great. We must not have visited at a super busy time as even though it was a long weekend we were always able to get a seat at the pool, at the evening cocktail hour, and at breakfast, none of which were particularly crowded or required us to wait, so that was really nice! Our room was ready when we arrived at noon, which was a lovely and unexpected surprise, and we were given an extra hour at checkout due to our late flight. All of the facilities we used in the hotel were excellent...the heritage wing pool, the fitness centre and the restaurants and bars, all of which we tried during our stay. Most impressive we felt was the value for money, as the rate we paid was really quite exceptional for a hotel of this calibre. We hope to stay again soon!

I had a wonderful three-night stay at this stunning property, rich in history and charm. The Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang shares historical ties with the iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore, making it a destination full of heritage and elegance. The main hotel lobby is also famously featured in the movie Crazy Rich Asians, adding to its allure. The service was impeccable, with staff going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. Privacy was well maintained, making it an ideal retreat. The breakfast spread was excellent, especially the international selection on the first floor, offering a great variety of dishes to start the day right. The pool area was fantastic, with both shaded and open sections, making it enjoyable at any time of the day. The seaside views were breathtaking, adding to the overall serene and luxurious experience. The only shortfall was the TV reception, which was really poor, but that was a minor issue compared to the overall exceptional experience. Highly recommend this hotel for those looking for a mix of history, elegance, and top-notch hospitality!

Very disappointed with our stay. Two nights in the Heritage wing, room was noisy from street traffic, toilet did not flush. High tea is overrated and over priced, not a relaxing experience with kids running around. Evening drinks and canapes in Cornwallis lounge was huge disappointment. Why set a dress code when you don't enforce it. Wife and I were suitably dressed then watched others allowed to enter in shorts and T-shirts. It's a disgrace. Loud and raucous group in the corner allowed to disturb the peace. I gave a review after first night, was contacted by Patrick the manager who offered a free dinner which was very nice but changes nothing when the bad behaviour continues. Went to the evening drinks on day two and still the same. How hard is it to have a staff member stand at the door and turn away people not suitably dressed. I will not recommend this place for a classy experience.
