Hotel situated in a serene location in the mountains. Our room was exceptionally clean, had all the amenities. Bed was firm with good support and had comfortable quality pillows (soft and firm). Staff made it feel very welcoming. We had the "family suite" with 2 twin bed and 1 queen bed that had a private terrace overlooking mountain valley. Hotel had souvenir shop on the outside, as well as free self-parking.
first time leaving a five star review! The service, rooms and spa were so nice after my 3 day remote hiking in mountains of Madeira. Restaurant and store a bit expensive but the food was delicious 🫶🏻 Spa closes at 19:00, pools for free saunas for 10€, overall great facilities and because of Madeira day we got an upgrade to a suite!! Such a pleasant experience ❤️ Would love to spend couple more days here, the drive from Funchal is also not so long.
The location of the hotel is only good at first site... if you want to explore the island, it's always around 15-20min of windy, narrow road uphill from funchal. We've been there in March, and on 5 out of 7 days, it was foggy and rainy up there. The breakfast was awful and didn't even come close to what you can expect from a four star hotel! No vegetables (except some warmed up canned mushrooms), very low quality bread and pastry, almost no choice (one type of cheese and sausage - the same every day), and absolutely no variety over the week. On two occasions, they didn't even have bananas - and that's quite an achievement on Madeira! I was even kind of offended as they carried the better quality local pastry through the breakfast room to the belonging tourist cafe for the viewpoint. To my question, why they don't offer this type of pastry to the hotel guests, they just answered that they only have "the other type" for breakfast... The service there unfortunately was very mediocre. There were always people around, but they never really seemed to understand the need of the customer. The only exception was the restaurant at dinner time. The service at dinner time was good and the food was great. The family room was well equipped and roomy, but it was damp, and there was mould on some walls. "Extras" like the billiard table and the Sauna were only available for a steep on charge.
