El Autor Hotel Madrid Autograph Collection

My husband and I stayed one night at El Autor. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff provide 5 star service. The location on a quiet side street is also a bonus. Claude was very knowledgeable of the area and spent time outlining map of places to go and answered any questions we had during our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Madrid.

I highly recommend the El Autor Hotel Madrid for travelers who prefer quiet boutique hotels rather than busy palace hotels. The location could not be better, on a quiet street behind the National Legislature. It is as safe of a location as could be due to the 24/7 police presence guarding the legislative building. It’s a mere few blocks—and a very pleasant walk from El Retiro Parque in one direction and the restaurants, bars and shops in the other. The hotel designer spared no expense in designing the rooms and finishing, with beautifully detailed plastering, metalwork (door knobs, window shutter latches…) bathroom fixtures, hardwood flooring in the rooms and stairwells, carpeting where appropriate, marble tiles in the bathroom…The bedding is also high stitch count cotton. In every aspect the architects and interior designers chose client comfort and quality over economy. I would expect room rates to rise once the hotel has been operating for a year.

Location and overall design are nice. We had a very rough time checking in with our toddlers. Check in was very slow after we had been messaging in the app confirming details of our room days in advance. Also no smart TV and pool is out of service. For a hotel of this price, it could be better. We booked with Marriott points for one night before a flight. For the same point value we stayed at the Edition 2 weeks ago. That hotel is miles ahead in terms of service, pool, and room quality.
