This hotel was so lovely and the location was perfect! The rooms were well designed and super cute. There is a restaurant and coffee shop/cocktail spot too. The gym has the perfect amount of equipment. You can walk to all the spots in downtown Merced as an added bonus. Highly recommend!
Absolutely Loved Our Stay! Our experience at El Capitan Hotel was amazing from start to finish. Despite being right in the heart of downtown Main Street, the hotel maintained a calm and peaceful atmosphere—no noise issues at all, which was a pleasant surprise. The King Suite was beautiful, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. One standout touch was the easy Netflix connection—we ended up watching Happy Gilmore 2 straight from our phones, which made it feel like home. We originally came to Merced for work, but this hotel made the trip feel like a mini getaway. The Rainbird restaurant exceeded our expectations with delicious dishes, and Native Son bar had a fantastic vibe for winding down. While more self-parking spots would be helpful, public parking was easily accessible right across the street, so it wasn’t an issue. El Capitan Hotel truly made our stay in Merced memorable. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area—whether for business or pleasure!
Aesthetically, the hotel looks nice, but our room had a slight odor and the AC didn’t work properly. My son and I had trouble sleeping because the room was too warm, it was over 100 degrees outside when we arrived. Additionally, we got in later in the evening and were disappointed to find there were no food options available at the hotel, not even snacks.
