This is the second time we have stayed at the Esplanade, and can highly recommend it. It is reasonably priced, centrally located, situated near a number of attractions in Freo. The rooms are basic but are comfortable and clean. The Hotel does have bars and restaurants inside. We tried a couple of dishes, the calamari and the pork belly, both full of flavour. You can buy breakfast in the morning, but I do feel it is quite expensive and prefer to try some of the cafes close by. All in all this is really a great place to stay when visiting Fremantle.
Unfortunately the bath room floor had long black hair left behind. Pretty clear the bath room floor was not cleaned. Other than that the towels were lovely and soft and the bed was very comfy. Staff were nice and when I informed them about the hair they were very apologetic and offered free drink cards, which was a nice gesture. It’s a great location with everything you need walking distance. We had dinner there the fish was beautiful fresh and tasty.
I am not one to complain or write reviews good or bad. However there had been several issues (within a 3-4 day period) whilst staying at Esplanade Fremantle. The second night here there was a cockroach in the bathroom. Early one morning there was drilling + sawing directly above our room. The morning after, coming back to the room there was a strong chemical smell, initially I thought this was bug spray but after a visit to the balcony saw painters directly above the room. The safe has jammed twice. The engineer took the whole thing out and eventually managed to open it and reset it. The next day it jammed again. We cannot use it now. We spoke to reception re the bugs and construction and she assured me I would get a call later in the evening to discuss spraying the room - no phone back. To date we have been offered two drinks vouchers and to move room tonight - we are staying in a king spa room... Hotel affiliated parking is very expensive. $30 per day (until 12 noon, not full 24hrs), this is at the discounted rate ($50 normally) and at a car park that appears far more expensive than any others in Fremantle (albeit much closer to the hotel). The hotel staff have been pleasant to deal with.
