Esplendor Resort at Rio Rico

Take the previous reviews with a grain of salt. I just arrived back from the resort and it was very enjoyable. First the beauty of the location: magnificent views. The grounds are beautiful and the pool is awesome. Could it use a little maintenance? Yes, but overall, any small negative was outweighed by everything else right. The food from restaurant was excellent! Staff was friendly and attentive-pool towels were a challenge. It was just a weekend, but wish I would have booked longer!! :)

The place was once grand... it's no longer in great shape... but that said my rating is based on the feel of the grounds and views. The place has a lovely dinning room and bar and the food is very good. The breakfast used to be made to order and is now a buffet, that is really a shame, it was excellent also. The pool is very nice and the views of the valley are exceptional. The rooms... leave a lot to be desired. The TVs are old CRTs. The title in the baths is failing, the shower heads are random in every room... you might get a good one. The water pressure is good, the room is spacious and the closet is big. It's just dated and needs maintenance. Over all when I'm working in Nogales I stay here, every time. The rooms are not great, but I only sleep in there, I don't hang out in my room. I like the pool, bar, and feel of the place so much it out weighs the lack of maintenance. I have spent over 2 months in the hotel and just booked a week this morning.

The Rio Rico area is very pretty and this resort takes advantage of the location with great views of the surrounding valleys. The resort appears to be struggling and is looking tired and worn. If you come expecting Scottsdale level facilities you will be disappointed. But if you just enjoy what they DO offer, it is really a great place especially for the price. People were friendly and helpful. We had a great time and would definitely come back.
