Our family had a great stay at EVEN. Room was quiet and cleaned well everyday. This hotel had pretty much all the amenities our family needed for the stay, including the gym. Staff was very courteous, and would stay there again if there's a need for us to be in downtown Brooklyn. Only negatives are short beds and the bathroom barn door needs better engineering.
Overall, this was a good place to stay for our purposes (family tourist trip to NYC). The location is near things like grocery stores and close enough that most touristy spots are a quick walk and an easy subway ride without transfer, but yet out of Manhattan so the price is a little less eye-watering. (Don't forget to explore Brooklyn while you're staying here! We did and loved it.) The mini-fridge was small but very helpful for us to get milk for cereal in the morning, saving us money on the hotel breakfast or eating out. The room felt clean and seemed to be reasonably up-to-date. There is a microwave downstairs for general use, though it is very small. However, watch the fine print carefully - they charged an additional $28.69 per night for a "resort fee." Lol, this isn't a resort, it is a hotel! The benefits provided by this "resort fee" were not explained to us verbally, and in writing they said that it provided for things like "free cheesecake" - with food purchase - and "coffee and tea in the room" - you mean, like almost every hotel room I have ever been to? It was not optional. It seems more like a way to make their price look better but then squeeze just a little bit more from the customer. Overall, would I stay here again if the [real] price was right? Probably. But that fee amounted to an additional $172.14 for our 6-night stay, added no value, and left a bad taste in my mouth about the place.
Nice, clean rooms. Cleaned every day. There is a water filter and ice dispenser on the floor that I stayed on. Location is unbeatable. Very close to NYU and downtown Brooklyn as well. Cons - 1) No microwave in the room. I had called before booking, and I was informed by a receptionist that there would be one. 2) Storing bags - I had requested an early check-in, and thankfully, I got it. But, mind you, they inform that you can keep your luggage at the reception if the room isnt ready, but there is a $85 charge a piece! And I wasn't informed of the charge on the phone. That is so not right. Inform your customers of the charge when they inquire about luggage storage on the phone itself. Lying by omission is dishonest. So disappointing really.
