Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fosshotel Reykholt. The staff are very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. We were very impressed with the quality of the food being served at dinner and breakfast. The location is also ideal for exploring the local area.

Quiet, cozy and comfortable in the foreground, great location. All at once short from the main places but still so far out in the countryside away from the hustle and bustle and irritation. Service and attitude of the staff completely genuine and charmingly entertaining. clean and warm. The food, this three-course menu was well presented, tasty and a clean and clear work of art. The hotel's spa was very cozy and relaxing. The decoration of the rooms was not too great, but cleanliness and comfort met the requirements.

We were a family of six staying 2 nights at this hotel, booking three rooms and spending real money - including $500 on dinner at their restaurant on our first night. After dinner, we sat down in the lobby, which was sparsely populated, to play cards together. One of us had brought a glass of wine from our room, and the bartender told us outside alcohol wasn’t allowed in shared spaces. Okay, fair enough. We put it away without complaint. Then around 10 PM, I got hungry and went out to the car to grab a small baggie of dried mango. I brought it back to the table, and not 30 seconds later, the bartender came over again. This time, I was told I wasn’t allowed to eat outside food in the lobby, and if I wanted to eat it, I’d need to go to my room. When I asked why, he vaguely cited a "COVID policy." Just to be clear - this was in July, 2025. The kicker? They were totally fine with us eating a bag of chips as long as we bought them from the bar. So it’s not about cleanliness, food smells, or COVID. It’s just about squeezing every possible krona out of already-paying guests. For a hotel that presents itself as high-end, this felt petty, small, and tone-deaf. We weren’t rowdy. We weren’t bringing in takeout. Just a bit of dried fruit and a game of cards in the evening. Apparently, that was too much. If you’re considering staying here, just know: you’re welcome to spend hundreds on rooms and meals, but if you get hungry, don’t you dare try to eat your own snack in the lobby. A tall man with a man bun will materialize almost instantly to remind you that your dried mango is a threat to public order — unless, of course, you bought it from the bar. [Also the other staff was generally great, and our waitress from the meal was super friendly.]
