This is a great place to rest, take in some beautiful scenery of Frensham pond, with the sounds of birds. I have periodically visited this hotel over the past 18 months and only on one occasion recieved poor service (which is why I never went back for age's), otherwise the staff arr friendly and polite and happy to help. I've eaten a couple of times and always enjoyed my food. I have never stayed at the hotel as I live locally, but I would consider this my local if I was a regular drinker.
Would like to give it zero stars. Feel completely hoodwinked and ripped off. A budget hotel at premium prices in my opinion. Never again. The name implies a country house hotel and indeed one with a spa. Nothing like it in my opinion, in fact we had spent the previous nights at a real country house hotel. This horrible hotel, was nothing like it. Reminicent of a £50 a night budget hotel. The photo implies a location on the lake. However there are roads and a car park immediately around the hotel. We were told it was not possible to eat breakfast outside overlooking the lake (and the road). Breakfast was horrible and dried up. Breakfast was totally self service and really not nice. Hot drink self service from a machine only. Horrible smelly room overlooking the car park. Found a dead bug on the sofa on our arrival. Horrible 1970s type decor in orange and brown, very uncomfortable sofa. Pillows felt like bricks. Woke up with neck pain. Small room, tiny bathroom with no bath. Absolutely nothing to recommend it. You need to pay about £60 extra I believe per couple per night to use the spa. We only set eyes on 3 members of staff during our whole visit. So completely inferior to the country house hotel we had just left, which was charging a similar price for service and facilities far in excess of the minimal offering at this hotel. Photos show horrible eggs on offer at breakfast and the dead bug we found on our sofa in our room on our arrival.
The 2 rooms we saw ( the first was appalling & the second was clean mostly ) were 2 of the worst rooms I've ever seen in a hotel. Ripped curtains , staples sticking out around the window, staining on the pillow on our bed ( yuck ) the carpet like a patchwork quilt, cracked glass , missing pieces , dirty & dead mosquitos are to name a few. We paid £20 to have a room with a bath because the one we paid ( £143 for ) didn't have one. But because we had to change rooms out new room didn't have one but we weren't refunded anything. The spa pool ( which isn't included in the room price!! ) water was filthy. We realised when we were in it & the jets had turned off. We hastily got out. Dinner was barely ok & cool / almost cold ( we swapped plates as we both didn't like ours ) drinks , ingredients were missing so couldn't have what we chose about 3 different options. Service charge is mandatory even though we were the only people in the restaurant at 6:30pm dinner. Breakfast wasn't included in the room price but that was surprisingly good. Finally a really loud fire?? alarm went off at 5:45 am & annoyingly couldn't go back to sleep. We were refunded £49 off the spa & breakfast when we left but nothing off the room. I have since emailed the manager to ask if anything further could be done as our stay was just so expensive for the bad quality of everything but I've not heard anything. Sadly here are the photos as the website makes the hotel look lovely but in actual fact it's dated & dirty.
