Gartenhotel & Weingut Pfeffel Dürnstein

This is a lovely hotel, set in its own vineyard in the countryside. Don’t be put off by the photos of the bedrooms. I had the largest bedroom I’ve ever stayed in with balcony overlooking the Danube, walk in wardrobe, separate toilet and shower. It was very spacious. The rooftop spa is modern with heated pool, saunas, quiet area. The restaurant is good and offers an excellent breakfast buffet. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from Durnstein and there are no buses or taxis so you need to factor in this in if you are on a walking holiday. I wished I could have stayed here for more than one night They sell their own wine at reception.

FYI as of July 2025, the hotel is a construction site with workers around and making noise starting from 6am. This was not indicated on booking.com or Expedia, nor did I receive a message from the hotel ahead of time or upon arrival. I did noticed the hotel website has a since sentence about expansion but the extent, duration, and expectations for guests is not addressed at all.

Great location, good breakfast, excellent views. The central heating system was overwhelmingly hot, making the room temperature unbearable and impossible to sleep. Additionally, the advertised 'sofa bed' wasn't a proper sofa bed and was extremely uncomfortable. Also, I was concerned that my credit card was photocopied at check-in, which felt like an insecure practice. Would not recommend due to these significant comfort and security concerns. I almost never leave negative reviews, but the lady at the front desk didn’t seem to care at all about my feedback, and ignored me completely.
