Everything as "five star". My husband and I were visiting friends in Hamburg, and they suggested the Gastwerk Hotel. It did not disappoint.
We stayed at Gastwerk Hotel Hamburg for one night and were initially very pleased. The hotel is housed in a beautifully converted industrial building – spacious, stylish, and with a distinct atmosphere. While it’s located a bit outside the city center, the area is calm and may suit travelers looking for a quieter stay in Hamburg. Dinner was excellent, with a solid menu and a well-curated wine list. The overall ambiance of the hotel is refined yet relaxed. Unfortunately, our experience at checkout affected the otherwise positive impression. I had misplaced a necklace and brought it up with the front desk. The conversation that followed became unnecessarily tense and lacked the empathy and professionalism expected at a 4-star hotel. While these things happen, the way they are handled can make all the difference. In summary, Gastwerk is a strong choice for design-conscious guests seeking a quiet, high-quality stay – but service consistency, especially in sensitive moments, could be improved.
It was too hot inside. Most of the rooms don't have windows to the outside and they don't have air conditioning. There's only a system which can reduce temperature by at most 3 degrees, but with the whole building being around 25 degrees I couldn't get my room to a comfortable sleeping temperature. Really weird that they keep the building that hot, because outside it was only around 15 degrees. Also for the conference we held there it was a temperature which made it difficult to keep your eyes open during the talks. The food was beyond any expectation, though. The area around is not too interesting. Go a bit south and there's loads of small restaurants. There's a bit of an alternative scene there: some cultural things, but also some hobos.
