Visited with a friend for the Belmont Stakes and had an absolutely fantastic stay! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism. Every single staff member went out of their way to make sure we felt welcomed and well cared for—from the attentive front desk team to the thoughtful little touches that made our stay feel truly special. A special shoutout to the shuttle drivers, who were not only prompt and reliable but also incredibly kind and engaging. They made getting to and from the races seamless and enjoyable, even sharing great local tips along the way. The mineral bath spa is outstanding—peaceful, beautifully maintained, and the perfect way to unwind after a day at the track. And the restaurant! The staff there was amazing—gracious, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our dining experience memorable. Every meal felt like a treat thanks to their warm hospitality and impeccable service. This hotel strikes the perfect balance of comfort, care, and character. Whether you're heading to the Belmont or just looking for a relaxing escape, I wholeheartedly recommend it. We’ll absolutely be back!

The staff at the front desk are nice and helpful enough, and that's where my positive review ends. From a previous stay, I remember the rooms were older, but I had read on the hotel website and elsewhere that they did a renovation-- not sure where, however, as our room was horrible. The smallest room, with a dormer to give it more "airiness". It was very hot while we were there this weekend so the A/C needed to be on but truly it made the room worse. The humidity in the room was unbearable and the musty, wet smell from the older unit was disgusting. The carpet in the room was frayed and coming up between the bedroom area and bathroom. Oh, and the bathroom-- smaller than a water closet but includes the shower, toilet, sink and a radiator. There is a sign saying that the bathroom is the "original styling," which could be charming but in this case it's just old, run down, and DIRTY. Only cleaned where you can easily see, not anywhere else - see photos. They had clearly reglazed the tile, but failed to do so behind the toilet and in other places it was chipping off. I didn't even want to put my feet down on the floor. The hotels check in check out policy is also crazy. Check-in at 4, check out at 11, which means not even getting 24 hours in the room. We travel a lot and have never had such a late check in time. We asked for early check in, which we needed as we were going to an event, which the hotel granted at a cost of $60, which also seems absurd and we were able to get into the room at 2pm. We are often in Saratoga but will never stay at the Gideon Putnam again, unless there are major changes. Retain the charm, but at least clean the room. PS- I got charged $100 resort fee-- what is that? I was there less than 24 hours and didn't use a single thing at this "resort." What nonsense and a scam.

What a wreck of a hotel!!! The location is great - right in the park, but Saratoga is small, so it wouldn’t be hard to get to the park from another hotel. But - the hotel needs a complete renovation. Our room was too small for the bed - so they turned a nightstand sideways and shoved it next to the bed (so from the bed you’re looking at the back). Nothing on the other side. And the charging plug didn’t work. No desk or table - just one old chair. In the tiny, dirty old bathroom they just covered the old tub with a plastic liner - which buckled everywhere you stepped. I looked up and the vent above had a fist-sized ball of filth in it (see photo). The person who painted the windows never bothered to scrape the paint off the glass, which had never been cleaned. They had painted over the soap holder, which was of course peeling and dirty. The bedside lamp seemed like it had never been wiped down - it was actually sticky. And it was impossible to sleep through the incredibly noisy but ineffective in-room AC. We demanded a move to another room which was grudgingly done, but it was only minimally better, and we got little sleep as each time the unit kicked in we woke back up. The breakfast buffet is all pre-made, frozen fare. I would be disappointed if that was included in a $140/night motel; in a $450 per night “luxury” property, for $25 each, it was a disgrace. To sum up, having traveled a lot, this ranks as one of the worst places I have stayed. It needs to close.
