Gidleigh Park

We booked afternoon tea last Sunday and really enjoyed it. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by two lovely ladies who seated us and took our order. The waiter was also very knowledgeable and explained everything that was being served. The hotel is clean and tidy with a pleasant ambience. The only comment I would make is to ensure a clean cloth is used when polishing the glass on the table, as it had some smears. Apart from that, everything else was great.

We happened to pass this hotel during a long hike and were received very hospitably. What a pleasure to have a coffee and lunch on the terrace. They even offered to refill our water bottles with water, ice cubes and lemon. These small tokens of kindness show a great sense of care for the guests. We loved it.

First class 'old school' service in the most beautiful Devon setting. I haven't been to Gidleigh since 2010 and whilst it has not changed at all, it doesn't need to. The service is class winning throughout your stay and makes you feel as if you own the country estate and are being pampered to by your own trusted team. Food remains very good and the setting is Dartmoor at its best. Even my 6 year old rated it as 'epic'.
