Golf View Hotel & Spa

I stayed there last week with a group of 8 for a golf trip. Our stay was exceptional. The hotel is and old classic building that has been well maintained. The rooms were large and in good condition with very nice views of the Firth. The staff was pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. We had dinner one night and breakfast each morning and the food and service were very good. The location right is the water really makes this hotel special. I would definitely stay there again the next time I'm in the Highlands.

I’m trying to give this hotel the benefit of the doubt. I have attempted to enjoy it on several occasions due to its magnificent views, however after visiting on numerous occasions and reading the great reviews on Google I often think who are these people comparing the food to? Not anything that’s a decent standard clearly! After the sixth visit I have yet again been disappointed service is slow with waiting staff not actually knowing the details of the menu let alone accommodating people with allergens, after waiting about 15 minutes to be seated, I then entered the dining room whether there are only two tables seated both of whom were already eating I was then sat in the very worst Table in the restaurant in the conservatory almost in the car park maybe it was because I was a female dining alone instead of feeling welcome. I felt ostracised, Something that I am not used to considering I eat out as a single female all the time. I decided to order two starters a prawn cocktail and the Salt-& pepper calamari the Salt & pepper calamari has never seen Salt & pepper although decently presented. I really don’t understand why chefs that are clearly not Asian trained insist on trying to cook dishes they simply can’t.. the prawn cocktail was basic to say the least with two pieces of baby gem lettuce and a wedge of lemon to accompany it and not a piece of bread in sight, I was then charged a side £5 for Bread to a company this; the prawn cocktail was already £9 not excessive I know but given the serving coupled with the lack of bread it was a £14 starter.. The glass of Gavi was reasonably priced at £10. Although did not show until 10 minutes after my food, The waiters excuse was unfortunately we are quite busy today. I looked around and thought you have no idea of what working in a Busy restaurant is! I Feel this hotel is resting on its laurels of location decor and scenery All of which they have in abundance. The staff are friendly, however, not attentive And definitely not worth a service charge 10% when you have to wait 40 minutes for a glass of white wine, especially when your food comes out before your drinks an the Waiter doesn’t notice. To top it off my bill was incorrect and I was charged an extra £4 which was then justified by the manager until pointing out the correct pricing on the menu. No apology was offered just a new bill presented with the correct price And yes, I paid the 10% service. I like this hotel. I do wish the management would get things in order and they actually step up and deliver the food that their awarded rosettes suggest.

While the cleaning crew seemed to actually put in some effort, that's where the positives end. The owner clearly doesn't give a damn about the guests or the state of the hotel. They were rude, dismissive, and acted like we were inconveniencing them by being there. The rest of the staff weren't much better – clueless, unhelpful, and seemed actively annoyed whenever we asked for anything. It's like they held a contest to see who could provide the worst customer service. Avoid this place like the plague unless you enjoy being treated like garbage. Please avoid this place at all that was my last time ever. !!
