Don’t judge the hotel by its exterior, it might look a bit old from the outside, but inside it's a different story. We got a refurbished room that was super spacious and clean. Staff were really friendly and accommodating, made us feel very welcome. The swimming pool is big and great for relaxing. Breakfast buffet was surprisingly good, and the fact that they had teh tarik and mutton curry? Major plus point!
Room. It’s not the worst it’s not the best. The room is large so it’s suitable if you have kids. The cleanliness is decent. The outlets are bad, only 2/6 in the room is working. That has to be fix. Restaurant. I’m sorry but the restaurant upstairs is not the best. The coffee price is 11-14 but the taste is a 9. The foods are about 20-60. The pastry is not recommended. All are old, stale, and not tasty. Wasted 20 for one. The buffet downstairs isn’t that grand, it’s more like bland to me. Not the worst though. Overall, it’s okay. The location isn’t that lively. Not much restaurant or cafe. The mega mall is quite empty. I’ll give the hotel around 6/10.
I recently stayed at Grand Darul Makmur for a short business trip with colleagues from our Kuala Lumpur office. While the hotel has a good location and decent facilities, I feel compelled to share our disappointment with the check-in experience. We arrived around 6:00 PM, expecting a smooth check-in after a long drive, but were told that our rooms were not ready yet. This was quite surprising considering it was already well past the standard check-in time. We had confirmed bookings and had informed the hotel in advance, so this delay was unacceptable, especially for a business group. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and did not provide any clear explanation or offer any form of compensation (like a complimentary drink or temporary lounge access) while we waited. The wait was not very long in the end (about 25–30 minutes), but after a long journey and with a packed schedule ahead, this gave a poor first impression. The rooms were clean once we got in, and the overall stay was okay, but service quality during arrival really needs improvement. A 4-star hotel should ensure that guests are welcomed professionally, and rooms should be ready by the time of check-in especially when guests arrive in a group and on time. Please look into your housekeeping and front desk coordination this could make or break the guest experience. Would I return? Possibly but only if I hear that service standards have improved.
