We stayed here for three nights in May, so off season. The hotel is a local institution and is a must visit just for the hotel lobby and local history. Our room was perfectly adequate with a comfortable bed. You can't open the windows but that's probably a security feature. There was a power cut during our stay which was stressful, but the hotel was back to full swing in no time. We had two days by the pool which was so lovely, and we were looked after by the pool staff who made excellent cocktails. The swim up bar was especially fun. We didn't have any time on the beach as it wasn't quite warm enough but definitely something we would consider if we returned in high season. We hired bikes to cycle along the island coast which was great, but the bikes were a bit old and difficult to ride; it would be good if they invested in replacing them. All in all a very good stay and perfect for a few days on the island.
We had a fabulous time! Many memories made. Loved the High Tea service! Room was nice, but lights from the hallway prevented our room from being dark during sleeping hours. There was no way to block the light. Beds were Queen size but I really think they were Full size; just seemed smaller than our queen mattress at home. I was disappointed that getting a hot cup of coffee was difficult. I tried to get a cup of coffee from the Monarch restaurant two nights in a row to just sit out in lobby and relax. Both times I did get them they were cold. They have a beautiful coffee bar that’s only open a short time in the morning. You should consider having it open in the evening for those that do not want a cocktail and prefer a nice coffee! We ate at the restaurant which was lovely, but wish there was more variety, such as pasta or salads. Eating fish or shellfish constantly can be a bit much. Menu needs additions. The pool was so nice, but one day they ran out of pool towels for guests to use. Finally got some after 30-40 minutes. We did enjoy our time and will be back!
My family consists of 2 adults and 2 young teens. Myself and my children are very tall, my wife is very small and petite. We are all in shape. The rooms are very small, as long as you are not in the room it's fine, but you can't move around or sit comfortably. We encountered a sink that was clogged and a plastic bag in the toilet of the room we were placed. We couldn't use our restroom after a 5 hr car trip, it was frustrating. We moved rooms and the shower towel hanger fell off exposing a sharp metal bracket. Some of this is our fault because we did book a room with 2 doubles, but that's all they offer for a family. If you've been to Disney you know their rooms are small, this is even smaller. We couldn't move hotels because of their policy without being charged for an extra night. I wouldn't not recommend this. if it was just my wife and I it would have been okay, not great, but okay. For a family I'd definitely avoid. Staff were not very helpful. I hope you all have a better experience.
