The hotel it’s self is very pretty and chic. It is a good mix of modern and old world. the rooms are very large with plenty of space for unpacking! I believe the hotel could be 5 stars if they improved in two things. The rooms were clean but had quite a bit of dust. And the room service ends at 10 (should be 24 hours) and the menu for room service is just food from the hotel’s restaurant. the elevator also broke down a couple of times during my 4 night stay. other than those things i enjoyed my stay a lot and very inexpensive for what you get
So pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We got the wellness suite with a Finnish sauna in it. Walking in the hotel, we were impressed by the hard wood floors throughout the suite and the lobby. The hotel is old but we appreciate the history of the building being home to the princes in the late 1800s/1900s. The sauna was awesome. I didn’t realize it had a second bedroom. Location is great - in the middle of Florence within walking distance to all the places we wanted to see and the Santa Maria train station as well.
Don’t expect anything luxury here. The only thing nice about this hotel is the location close to the train station and the rooftop bar for the view. Other than that, the bathroom in our room and the hotel need a complete renovation. I understand the Italian old charm but our room was covered in black mold and I think they can update the hotel with classic Italian marble to give it a charming but modern facelift. They also control the a/c in the room so it was very hot and uncomfortable for the 90 degree heat outside in June. For over $600 euros a night, I expected better conditions and cleanliness (chipping paint in the tub, hair in the bathroom from prior guests). Thankful we only stayed here one night and it was a quick easy walk to the train station with luggage. Also walking distance to all major sites. Would not stay here again unless they renovate. I also heard them turn away multiple guests from the rooftop bar area that said they had called to let them they would be coming in a little late (this was all around 9pm) and wanted to make sure they would be able to get something to eat when they arrived. These guests were told they could order food by whoever they spoke to on the phone as well as the hostess who seated them (we witnessed that) but the waiters told them all the kitchen was closed. This happened to more than one group of guests and was clearly a miss by the hotel staff. The guests got up and left upset, not ordering anything. They could have made the hotel money and had happy customers but instead the opposite. Management should be aware of this problem within their staff and this should not happen to guests.
