Grand Hotel Bristol

The pool area is beautiful and very inviting. We also really liked the design of the new rooms. Unfortunately, there were some shortcomings: In our deluxe room, a kettle as well as coffee and tea were missing. In the bathroom, there was no plunger and no trash bin. At check-out, we were charged 10 francs—just because we had a wine opener brought from the bar to our room. Naturally, we did not pay this fee, as it is an outrage for a four-star hotel. A wine opener should be a standard device and available in the room. Furthermore, it would be better if regular glasses made of real glass were provided in the rooms instead of the disposable cardboard cups we found.

Free wifi has a limit to 1 gig, which sounds like enough but after 2 days, and not even 2 full movies on Netflix it is out and moving so slowly it cannot play more than a few minutes at a time. Heated pool is not heated. Food is equal to a $75 roadside motel. Rules and restrictions are abundant, such as swim caps being mandatory and having to check towels out like a library. If you stay one night, it's a great hotel. If you plan to vacation in the area for a few days, I would strongly recommend looking at a different hotel.

So disappointed with our family stay at this hotel for our once a year summer holiday. We felt mislead as only upon arrival we realised that we should take an underground sideways elevator / train to our rooms in a separate annex building not conforming to the pictures or standards of the main hotel. Our view was of the bus parking area and some materials for construction. The shower only fit people with a height of max 170 cm., and we could not stand up in the shower. We ordered a burger at the pool bar at the price of EUR 24 - thus exceeding local Michelin guide main course prices in the Stresa city. The burger appeared to be made of entirely processed food with no burger sauce in it. Two seemingly completely standard tap beers (Blanc) was EUR 20 at the pool bar for a relatively small plastic glass. I will happily pay EUR 20 for a locally brewed craft beer and EUR 24 for a solid, handmade burger, but sadly this was not it. Parking was EUR 20 a day. The pool area and towel service was the only satisfactory part of our stay. Never experienced such sub standard quality for the price of this stay, and we will not come back nor recommend it.
