Grand Hotel Des Bains

This is a 5 star hotel only because of its history and location. The staff is impeccable. The rooms look like they are stuck in 1970. The style, I mean. Lack of comprehensive room service and no laundry service on weekends. The valet of cars is a great amenity. The front desk is very helpful and courteous. The housekeepers were also very efficient and diligent.

Good: - beautiful classical hotel with nice decor. - friendly and professional staff. - good and varied breakfast. - small but excellent spa with hot pools, nice large terrace pool. - central location close to the beach. Room for Improvement: - super small rooms (Classic Double); so little space you can't even open a large suitcase on the floor. room size totally inadequate for 5* standard. - tiny dark bathroom that shares half a window with room next door(!). ok for a hostel, unacceptable for a 5* hotel. and shows the rooms were artificially cut in half to fill more beds into the property. - very weak and patchy wi-fi signal. impossible to work from room. - walls and windows are thin, so you hear loud street traffic and voices from neighbouring rooms, garbage people in the morning, etc. - disco or bars down the hotel's street playing loud techno music until after 05:00 in the morning. - no place to relax and read (lobby dark and uncomfortable, terrace too hot, so seating area around the entrance parking is the least uncomfortable alternative but not ideal. Some sort of shaded garden terrace or lounge is missing).

A nice place but the small rooms is a major issue here. They did a major mistake with that.
