I had a lovely 2 night stay at Grand Hotel on my way back after leaving Chamonix. My friend in Como had recommended this hotel and so glad she did . The staff was extremely helpful in all departments. Upon my arrival in Stresa I learned that the rental car company where I was to drop my car off was closed on Sunday. The concierge upon hearing my issue said he would take care of returning the car to the rental agency— very helpful and he volunteered to help . I must say I have been to Lake Garda - Lake Como and now Lake Maggiore and the scenery and views here rival any of the others. The beautiful walkway around the lake was such a nice stroll . There are a dozen or more nice restaurants within a 6-7 minute walk from the hotel . The complimentary breakfast at the hotel was very very good - many choices and a great wait staff . The Concierge arranged a taxi to Malpensa for my flight to Istanbul as I did not want the hassle of dealing with the train for an early am flight . I see why author Earnest Hemingway spent a summer here at this hotel— it really is a special place . Look forward to returning
The property is undoubtedly beautiful—historic charm, elegant grounds, and a premium location. We truly enjoyed the atmosphere and amenities during our stay. Unfortunately, our experience was impacted by the non-functioning air conditioning in our room. Despite calling the reception multiple times and receiving repeated promises that someone would come to fix it, no one showed up and the issue was never resolved. For a hotel of this caliber, we expected much better responsiveness to guest concerns. We hope management addresses this, as everything else about the stay was memorable.
Very disappointed by the customer service in this hotel. Yes it is beautiful and the rooms generous and well maintained but we did not feel valued or welcome. The breakfast staff stand in groups gossiping and mainly ignore the guests and the breakfast on offer was not high standard. If you wanted a fried or poached egg or omelette there was an extra charge. My husband was also refused entry to the restaurant because he was in shorts on a day when the temperature was 30 degrees! No pool side service either. We will not be returning.
