I recently stayed for two nights, reserving two rooms for myself and my children. My room, which was newly renovated, was located on the first floor, while my children's room was on the third floor, in the older section of the floor. Although the older room on the third floor was quite clean, it did have some issues, such as a few power outlet and a somewhat inconvenient location. A small problem with the cylinder key case of the door, it was hard to open. My room on the first floor was spacious, featuring a living area and a generously sized bathroom. The shower was particularly enjoyable, with body and leg shower options, and the room also included a large balcony with a view of the Amalfi Coast. The water pressure was also quite satisfactory. To offer some suggestions for improvement, I would recommend adding more wastebaskets, perhaps more than one, not just in the bathroom. Additionally, it would be beneficial to provide facial tissues in the room or living area. It would be a nice touch to offer complimentary bottled water, similar to what is provided in some hotels. The swimming pool offers warm water, perhaps due to the warm weather, and boasts a truly delightful atmosphere with an excellent view. It is among the finest facilities, and the hotel provides a private beach with shuttle service. It is advisable to plan your return to the hotel from the city carefully, as the shuttle can become full during certain hours. The dinner selection is not highly recommended, as it offers a limited variety and the quality just ok, but it's a great view. All the staff are nice and polite. Overall, it is a wonderful hotel.
Pros: This hotel is a steal if you are looking to stay in Amalfi. It’s nestled near the top of the mountain and every room has an incredible view and balcony. The location makes it less than ideal for walking to town, but the complimentary shuttle service makes getting to town very convenient. Mauricio, one of their shuttle drivers was incredible. The staff will also arrange private transfers for guests that are professional and competitive in price. Breakfast is included which is also convenient if you have early plans for trips outside Amalfi. There is also AC which was nice on the warmer nights. Cons: The non-renovated rooms are dated, and the bed was not comfortable. The restaurant on site is convenient but the food is middling. For the price, location and level of service I would stay here again and again.
Beautiful Location, Warm Staff, Breathtaking Views — But a Few Improvements Would Make It Perfect We recently stayed at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Amalfi and overall, we had a truly enjoyable experience. The hotel is perched high above the Amalfi coast, offering stunning panoramic views that really elevate the stay. Waking up to that scenery each day was absolutely magical and one of the highlights of the trip. Our room was spacious and had a lot of potential, but it was one of the non-renovated ones. While it was clean and comfortable, the furnishings and overall decor felt quite outdated—especially in contrast to other areas of the hotel that seem more modern and refreshed. A renovation of these older rooms would really help maintain a cohesive style and elevate the guest experience. The staff were wonderful—always friendly, professional, and happy to help. The service overall was warm and attentive, from reception to the shuttle drivers. The hotel offers a free shuttle service that runs throughout the day to both the town center and the hotel’s private beach. You can book your time slot in advance, and they’re quite punctual. A big plus is that the drivers are happy to drop you off mid-route if you’re heading somewhere else along the way. This added flexibility made getting around very convenient. The hotel’s private beach is another great perk, especially during peak season when public beaches can get crowded. However, it’s important to note that the beach is not sandy—it’s made up of rough, stoney terrain. We highly recommend bringing swimming shoes to make the experience more comfortable, especially if you plan to go into the water. The shuttle takes you directly there and picks you up at your scheduled time. Breakfast was decent and included a variety of basics—fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, cereals, and juices. It wasn’t particularly memorable, but it covered all the essentials. As for the hotel restaurant, while the food was okay, the menu felt quite limited. We felt that a bit more variety and some local, seasonal options would really enhance the dining experience and better reflect the rich culinary culture of the region. To sum it up: the location is unbeatable, the views are breathtaking, and the staff really go above and beyond. With some updates to the older rooms and a bit more creativity and variety in the restaurant menu, this hotel has the potential to be one of the standout stays in Amalfi. We’d still recommend it—especially if you value views and a peaceful escape—just with a few practical expectations in mind.
