Grand Hotel La Sonrisa

Pretty dated property overall. Weird vibes generally, unless you’re there for an event. Pool is only open 7am-1pm, FYI. Breakfast was nice to have included. It’s about a 20 minute drive to Pompeii.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and this was the weirdest, eeriest place we’ve ever been to. The whole place is just so quiet and seems abandoned. The only guests we saw there was a group of people celebrating a birthday on the first night we arrived. The music was blasting late at night and when my husband and I were walking around the compound we felt like we were party crashing. The interior is extremely tacky and dated. Maybe it was stylish in the 70s and some people still like it, but to us it seemed over the top. The staff doesn’t speak English, we asked about the laundry service, but the receptionist didn’t understand us and it wasn’t done when we came back to the hotel in the evening. The breakfast was alright, just keep in mind you’ll be watched by a couple of staff members wearing suits. They have a pool (only open for a couple of hours in the morning) but we quickly realized we’ll not swim in it, because of the creepy vibe. There are a lot of good reviews about this place but please read the bad ones before booking a stay there!!! 🙁

Worst experience in a « 5 star hotel »!!! The reception guy working on the Saturday 26 is really not friendly and already make you feel that you will have a bad time!!!! The pool is dirty!! Don’t know why but when you are the room there’s a phone ringing in the corridor very late (11:15pm) and start again to ring at 7am…. No one never answer the phone. The breakfast was the rest of food of the events from the evening before!! The place is old and dirty!!! The only + was the guy working on Sunday 27 at the reception who understood our frustration! Was supposed to stay a week but left not even 24 hours that we left…. You can find much better then this poor place!!!
