This hotel was in a great location with an absolutely stunning view. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the room was very comfortable, and the city and tower fortresses were amazing. We explored on foot from our hotel, and walked all over old San Marino. The city itself is unbelievably cool, lots of alleyways, cobblestone, arches, churches, and amazing views everywhere of the towns in the distance and valley below. There are even nice hiking trails to be found there. Glad to have found this hotel in such a magical place.
The location is amazing and the service....it depends on who you get. Generally it's good, but some improvements could be made. The restaurant is a highlight due to their food and service. However, the low rating is due to one factor and that is that the owner refuses to put ANY money back into the hotel. It very obviously has not been updated one bit since it was built, (I'm guessing early 70's) and it shows. Not only is all of the decor extremely outdated and worn, but things are starting to crumble apart. The elevator feels like it could fall at any minute and staircase lobby furniture, the same. It's really such a shame, because it really could be spectacular. I wouldn't recommend a stay there.
I expected more from a Gran hotel. This is just my experience, I am sure others experienced was better. We were checked in 44 minutes after the guaranteed check-in time of 1400. No apology. Not only that, but there was no central iron and board we can use. Moreso, your staff rhe day we arrived stated we can use one from 0800 until I forget what time. However, when we went to get it at 0800 another staff member said that it was not available to us, only staff. Very contradicting to say the least. Also the room was described as having a fantastic panoramic view of the Montrefelto Valley. The only panoramic view was trees outside from the balcony. No view of the valley. This hotel was a huge disappointment to us in a variety of ways and is not commensurate with the price and advertisement.
