Rooms are not aerated, as the windows open for about 2cm, and that's it. There is sauna, however only for a few hours in the weekend, the hotel reception didn't mention anything about it, we had to ask. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast is ok, nothing special, the dining area is pretty old and worn, the ugly purple chairs are dirty, it feels very cheap. A renovation would benefit the place, especially because it is not a very cheap hotel. The city is beautiful, it has 17 sculpture cats, we managed to find 14.
I’m writing about their restaurant. There is a nice lunch buffet at the hotel’s restaurant. However, the main course of the food is many times NOT GOOD. I have been there for lunch several times and I have always been disappointed. Food is tasteless and many times barely warm. Usually lukewarm. Soup is lukewarm most of the times. Usually soup is the best part and their homemade bread. I think they need to pay more attention to the quality of their lunch food. I cannot comment on the actual hotel, since I have not spent the night there.
Recently stayed at the Grand Hotel Viljandi, and unfortunately, it did not live up to its 4-star rating or the advertising. The hotel prominently advertises its spa and sauna, but we were disappointed to find that the sauna is only open on weekends from 8 AM to 10 AM, and this information was not communicated to us until we arrived. There was even a sign for massage services, but no actual massage availability. Also, we went out for a few hours and left the ‘Please clean the room’ sign, but when we returned, no one had cleaned it.The entire experience felt misleading and not reflective of the price, which was about €180 per night. The hotel also felt quite old and worn, like it’s living off its former glory. On the positive side, the breakfast was nice, and the room was decent, but overall, I would say it felt more like a 3-star experience. I hope the hotel can improve transparency and maintain its facilities to truly match the expectations they set.
