Rooms (4/5): Very modern and clean. Nice rain shower head with good pressure. Only annoyance is the open shower (no door) which makes the entire bathroom wet. Rooftop (5/5): Wow. Just incredible. TWO pools and a wonderful bar. The infinity pool is MASSIVE. Plenty of space and never feels overly crowded because of the size. Location (2/5): Far enough to not be walkable anywhere (especially in the summer) but close enough to make taxi rides 10 euros or less. The neighborhood has nothing interesting for tourists and it’s next to a massive road. Breakfast (5/5): very good and the rooftop views make it a perfect way to start the day. Other Notes: - 4 elevators but kinda small and slow. Middle floors tend to get screwed. - AC worked fine. Takes time but it does get the room nice and cold
⭐ Rating: 3.5 / 5 We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Athens for our honeymoon and had a mixed experience. Pros: • Beautiful pools with stunning views from the rooftop/upper deck area. • Spacious rooms with strong, reliable air conditioning. • Daily cleaning service with fresh towels every day. • Free shuttle bus to the city centre is a great perk. • Good breakfast with plenty of variety. Cons: • Shuttle bus only runs once an hour and is small, so you need to queue early or risk missing out. • Breakfast area gets crowded after 9am, and service quality seemed to drop after that time. • Our balcony stayed wet for the entire stay, likely because it was next to a plunge pool. • Service was less attentive than we’ve experienced in lower-star hotels. • Reception and lifts get very busy at check-in/check-out times; we waited up to 20 minutes for elevators. • Minibar and restaurant prices were extremely high, and our minibar fridge wasn’t even cold. • We mentioned in our booking that it was our honeymoon, but there was no acknowledgment or special touch from the hotel, which was surprising for a 5-star property. Overall, the facilities and views are excellent, but the service and some practical details didn’t quite meet the expectations we had for such a high-end hotel.
Disappointing Experience – Not a 5-Star Stay I recently stayed at the Grand Hyatt Athens and was left underwhelmed by what was marketed as a 5-star hotel experience. Service & Staffing The restaurant staff seemed completely overwhelmed during meal times. Wait times were long, and it was clear the team was understaffed and struggling to keep up with demand. Similarly, room service was virtually nonexistent—you could request something like water an hour in advance and still not be sure if it would ever arrive. The hotel desperately needs more personnel and a better internal operations system. Facilities & Rooms While the rooms were decent in layout, they felt worn and dated. The flooring in particular looked tired and in need of refurbishment. At 11 a.m., the elevators were so packed that it was nearly impossible to move between floors—clearly a capacity and logistics issue for a hotel of this size. Overall The hotel may have the brand name and size, but the experience fell far short of expectations. I would categorize it more as a 3-star experience with 4-star rooms at best. Definitely not up to Grand Hyatt standards. Would not return unless major improvements are made.
