An iconic hotel with a rich history. I only spent one night, but everything was pretty dapper. At my request, they even got me a room with a view of the CN tower. Room was mostly clean, except for behind harder to reach areas. Facilities were good - gym well stocked - and the fine dining was delicious. Staff were very polite and professional. Of course, expect to spend a lot on everything, but that's to be expected at a five star hotel. Overall very happy with this experience.
It’s a large hotel in the heart of downtown Toronto, making it very convenient to access. From Toronto airport, the UP Express takes about 20–25 minutes to Union Station, and the hotel is right across the road. So the location is excellent, though the price feels high for what you get. The lobby is beautiful and the facilities are great. I used the gym, which had good equipment, towels, and even some snacks available. The room itself felt more like a standard 4 star room clean and tidy, but nothing particularly special. On my first night, I could hear music from a live band playing outside Union Station, so I expected better sound insulation for a hotel at this level. Breakfast was good. It wasn’t included in my stay (which gave me flexibility to eat elsewhere) but I tried it once. I personally prefer buffet-style breakfasts in hotels, which wasn’t the case here, but it wasn’t a major issue. The staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, if location is your top priority especially for quick access from the airport, it’s an excellent choice. Otherwise it feels like a normal good hotel but not worth the $500 CAD per night in my opinion. It does carry prestige (mentioning “Fairmont” often gets a reaction, as I even experienced with the immigration officer) but if you’re not looking for status or social media appeal, you can find similar service and comfort at other 4 star hotels in Toronto for much less.
Had a mediocre stay here. The lobby is an incredible attraction throughout the year - but the hotel experience is sub par. From the moment I arrived & the bellman took my luggage, service felt sub par. My luggage took 3 hours to arrive to my room. Myself & another guest had to try 3 different elevators until we caught one that would work. The “renovated rooms” are poorly designed & updated, the websites photos are quite deceiving. The lobby renovations are gorgeous - but that same attention to detail wasn’t translated into the hotel rooms. The 1 king bed hotel room we received was an odd layout, I had called the front desk to connect me to management to see if there could be a room change & inquire on my luggage arriving (as it had been 30min since I checked in) I was offered another room, which I switched to, it wasn’t until I (again) asked the manager about my luggage taking so long, the manager apologized and mentioned it shouldn’t take this long & I was given the wrong tag by the bellman. The bellman who delivered my luggage was very dismissive/rude, I had 5 pieces (mine & my partners, who was at work during this time) to move into another room which he initially wasn’t inclined to help me with - left me with 3 pieces on my own. He used the service elevator & told me to use the regular one - then arrived to the room with a cart, that he could have used for all 5 pieces. After all of this, I just wanted to order a late lunch but their in room dining wasn’t available - it would be in the hotels best interest to have a small snacks/appetizer menu available to guests all day. Breakfast the next morning at Rein was yummy but the server was quite rude to me and the other guests having breakfasts around me. Before my departure, I decided to provide constructive feedback to the public relations team - they did try their best in mending the experience, sent us champagne and strawberries + a discounted nightly rate. This was really really kind of them! Conclusion: I wouldn’t recommend staying here as a hotel guest, only going to the bar for a good cocktail, but I would have low expectations with the customer service. Restaurant service to cost does NOT match.
