I stayed at Grande Hotel da Barra for 11 nights while in Salvador for work. The hotel is in a great location, and the staff truly made my stay memorable. Special thanks to Alberto at the front desk, Milena in sales and reservations, Jeferson the waiter, and the wonderful housekeeping team who cleaned and organized my room every day. The breakfast was a highlight. It included a wide variety of breads, savory and sweet pies, fresh fruit, several juice options, freshly brewed coffee, and made-to-order tapiocas or eggs. One of the best parts of my routine was waking up, crossing the street to the beach, then rinsing off at the poolside shower before enjoying breakfast. The hotel also has a pool, and while I visited during the low season — which is definitely quieter than summer — I still found the place relaxing and enjoyable. A couple of areas for improvement would be the elevator system and the sound insulation. Noise does travel easily through the walls and doors. Even so, I’m already planning to return for at least two more upcoming trips. Highly recommend it for a comfortable and welcoming stay in Salvador.
Room - It was ok, a little old but it was clean and for me it was big. Location - Amazing place, very close to the beach with a nice view. Service - Front desk service was horrible, they did not help my currency exchange and gave me a poor advice to buy a chip for my sell phone. Fortunately, a staff that open the door heard the front desk advice and he assisted me to buy a chip to my cellphone. He was really kind and helpful, he saw that front desk was not giving a good advice for me and he gave me better advices.
Hotel does give horror movie vibes with its long dark hallways — see other reviews. What was most annoying about our stay was when our toilet clogged at night and the front desk offered no help, so we did not have a bathroom for a bit. We eventually went down and asked for a plunger so we could take care of it ourselves. Which we did, and no apologies or extra help from the front desk. It is a bit ridiculous to not help guests who need their bathroom when you could at the minimum just provide a plunger. Breakfast food was not appealing but pool was nice. Area is a bit dangerous for tourists — just be aware. Was nice walking up and down the beach. Overall, not sure how this hotel is rated 4 stars.
