Grandhan Hotel

Rooms are big and nice, beds are comfortable, internet is fast. I had problem with hot water for two weeks but they fixed it eventually. I don't eat breakfast so I can not comment on that. There are farms nearby so there was a disgusting fertiliser smell for a couple of days. Staff is mostly nice and helpful. In general I would recommend it to people who are looking for a place to stay for a business trip.

This hotel seems like it is made to be somewhat fancy, and is very ornate. There are curtains and carpet everywhere. It seems like everybody in Turkey smokes all the time, and although the room we requested was supposed to be non-smoking, it smelled like cigarette smoke. We had to switch rooms several times and by the third time, housekeeping asked us to “please go in the room” like we were causing problems in the hallway. They did not speak English so I used the translator to communicate what the problem was, and, although she did not agree that the room smelled, because she was a smoker herself, she offered to show us other rooms. There was one that had been airing with the windows open, and seemed like it smelled less, but still smells like cigarette smoke. As a non-smoker, this is very evident. It was late and we were very tired, so we just settled for the least smelly. Although this was not a cheap hotel, it did not seem like service was luxurious, and some areas were not very clean, like our mini fridge. I assume that due to changing rooms so many times upon check-in, the room we finally decided for had an empty fridge that was restocked the day after, and daily after that, but we were charged for drinks from the first day they were never there. I tried explaining the front desk this at check out but they did not seem to understand what they were saying and because it was not a lot of money I let it go. There is a restaurant in the lobby that also has a breakfast buffet, which was very good. There are some things that are an extra charge, like freshly squeezed juices.

The Grandhan Hotel was not the best place I've ever stayed. The rooms smelled very thickly of cigarette smoke. It was a last minute stop for us in the middle of a snowstorm, however, and I am very thankful for the accommodation. Not pet-friendly. Breakfast was okay.
