We stayed here for a night, it’s one of the newest hotel in the area and near to the canal, shopping street. Also, Lawson is just next to the hotel. It has an on-site car par, if not mistaken parking cost us 1500yen per day. The room size is acceptable, public bath and room very clean. But the con was the reception staff were not friendly and should be trained to smile more. Overall, we felt great and comfortable to stay here and will be back again!
Overnighted here and despite booking the double maisonette, was given the family room, as there were a total of three beds. 🤔 this was an “upgrade” I suppose, but not actually one we preferred as the single beds on the first floor instead of the sofa meant there was less space for our luggage and for us to lounge. Wished the staff would have checked if we were fine with the family room before assigning it to us. 🛏️ That aside, the room is huge and the loft bed is novel. Cleanliness is decent, though there was a lot of dust on one of the wall lamps. Amenities is slightly lacking — only cups and a kettle were available in the room, while bath essentials and coffee/tea you have to retrieve on the first floor after check in. 🫧 The biggest plus for this place imo is the public bath — I’ve stayed in four places this trip to Hokkaido and this place has the best-designed public bath. The bath is situated on the top floor and has a hot and outdoor bath, along with a sauna. My favourite was the outdoor bath, which used a traditional wooden spout. The bath was very clean with no visible signs of water damage like mold etc. 🚘 If you’re driving and need to park, would recommend the other paid car parks around — it would still be cheaper than the ¥1,500 the hotel charges. We managed to find one nearby that cost ¥700 for overnight parking. Major thanks though to the female staff on duty that evening who let us stop that car at one of the lots to unload our bags and check in before moving it. :’) Misc info: 👕 Laundry is paid and via coins 🏪 There is a Lawson just outside of the hotel
We stayed a night and chosen grid as a base as it's well situated in the middle of Otaru. - We checked in in the evening after a long day out. I was trying to get my family to offload the bags and check in first, hotel staff saw us and approached us at the parking lot, we thought it's impressive for staff to have noticed us and came forward to help and direct us but we were quick to jump to conclusion. Instead of assisting us, the staff ask us to put the bag back on the car so he could direct us to a parking lot which requires payment. It's okay that assumption failed, but when we are at the parking lot, the staff direct me to park in the initiate lot, but subsequently changed his mind and directed me to park at the lot beside despite the fact I have turned off the engine and gotten off the car, and there's easily another 20 lots around. That being said, I am fine with moving, the final straw for the poor rating came when they saw my wife struggling to wheel the big bags for the family across the snow to the hotel but offered no help. I think it's ungentlemanly and unspoken off of japanese service culture. - Rooms and onsen is impressive though, we stayed in the top level which only has three family rooms I guess and the view in the morning is good. Amenities are self serviced at level one across the check in counter. Top notch face mist and hairdryer in the room was a plus. Cleanliness was top notch as well. - paid 1500yen parking is only until next day 1100 - location was central to Otaru Canal and JR Otaru station.
