Guilin Bravo Hotel Grand Wing

We booked a lake view room. This meant we had a lovely view of the lake and all the activity there. The room was fine. Breakfast was fine - usual buffet style. However, the dinner was terrible. The location is excellent as you can walk out at night onto the lake paths and into the markets - really nice atmosphere and very safe.

The Grand Wind really is grand! We stayed here as part of our group tour, upon entering you are greeted with large marble-esque pillars and a huge chandelier. The long curve of the hallway leading you to your room was nicely lit and styled. The bed was massive with a nice firm mattress, decent size bathroom with some nice toiletries (although it had bath foam with no bath) plenty of them as well. The air conditioning wasn’t very good and the fridge didn’t get cold, but other than that it was a good room. We had a decent view too. There is a nice bar downstairs with cakes and a decent selection of drinks, albeit with slow service. WiFi didn’t work very well but I have data service on my phone so it wasn’t a big deal. Despite the humidity of the Guilin area and the AC not working very well we still slept comfortably. Really well located with the river / lake, and park very close by and lots of shops around.

The renovated lobby is fabulous. By far the best part of the hotel. In the rooms, things are old, and sometimes falling apart. Cigarette smoke everywhere, including all the lobbies. I had to change my room three times at check in (that's 4 rooms in total) until I found one that did not totally reek of smoke. The personnel are friendly. Asked if they could make my stay more pleasant. I suggested they may want to offer me a small (8-piece) free laundry service to make it up to me, but they refused. All in all, the stay was quite tolerable.Decent location, too. Doubt I would stay there again, though.
