Here’s a revised version that captures that feeling: An old grand hotel with charm and comfort Guilin Lijiang Waterfall Hotel has the feel of a once-grand hotel, and while it’s a bit dated, it still offers a very comfortable stay. The location is perfect—right by the lake, near the twin pagodas, and within walking distance to shops and local restaurants. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet. Staff were polite and helpful. The nightly waterfall show adds a unique local touch. If you appreciate classic hotels with character and a great location, this is a solid choice.

Hygiene needs to be improved. The old carpet gives you the mould smell all over. Some allergic people can get very sick of this mould smell. Breakfast is a disaster. China hotels do not know how to cook a good breakfast, and this hotel was the worst one. The positive is the location, which is easy to transport to some attractions. The room attendant ladies are good. But why can receptionists not speak English? Working in a hotel with tourists, please learn some basic English.

Horrible first impression: our room has been smoked in recently, maybe even today. I would never stay here again because I can’t tolerate cigarette smoke. … I’ve now been here about six hours. THIS HOTEL SUCKS! Cigarette smoke in our room is toxic. NO FUNCTIONING WIFI. The property is old, tired, and worn out. The water is not hot. The windows are sealed shut so there’s no way to let in fresh air. The rooms are at best dimly lit. Finishes, fixtures, and furniture are worn, nicked, scraped, and falling apart. The hotel catered a dinner for our group tonight. The food was slightly above average. None of the waitstaff spoke English so it was impossible to communicate. The staff smiled a lot so I guess they had a good attitude. The nonsmoking room that was full of fresh and stale cigarette smoke, coupled with the nonfunctioning WiFi, are deal-killers. AVOID THIS PROPERTY AT ALL COSTS.
